Is Valuev the worst ever?

Nowhere near the worst ever. Many of the guys listed are worse + Sam Peter.

 

To be honest I think he was an alright champion. A fair number of decent contenders could not beat him and only a few really had a chance against him.

i think carnera is given a hard time. he was a product of his surrounding but forget the corruption stories and look at what he's done. it's to be respected.

It might not be in line with popular opinion but Primo Carnera would probably have had an easy time with many of todays top 10.

I don't think that any of the undisputed champions e.g. Sullivan to Lewis, is close to being among the worst.

Well there is a lot of smoke and doubtless fire.

I am satisfied that the fight where he beat Jack Sharkey for the heavyweight title was not fixed.

I also dont think that the three key fights that established him as a title challenger were fixed.

I would add that Carnera is by no means the only champion from that period who has been implicated in fixed fights. If we are going to scrutinise Carnera on that basis then we would have to look at some of the alegations against Max Baer and Jimmy Braddock.

 

what i know about the sharkey fight was that sharkey took a savage beating in the 6th...but the crowd said he was decked from a punch nobody saw, and then came the fix talk...but the cameras that were there showed an uppercut landing for sure....have i got that right ?

I think that the uppercut might not have been obvious from ringside, but watching the film it obviously landed, and Sharkey didn't see it coming.

I think that Sharkey was already in trouble when the uppercut landed. He had been taking a boxing lesson in the later rounds and had visited the canvas.

Sharkey was certainly the more talented of the two fighters, but he had plenty of off nights while Carnera was prety consistent at delivering his A game.

I think that in many ways the fight was Carnera's Buster Douglas moment. He fought a smart fight and controled the distance well. He made Sharkey fight his fight.

 

so...you think maybe we should take his results as results...and maybe ignore the fix rumours as there are so many if's and but's ?

 

I thinkwe have to take some of his results with a grain of salt.

Especialy some of his earlier fights in Europe.

 

but would you say the sharkey fight, that spainish fella and tommy loghran were above board ?....and i 'll add ernie shaff to that too, i know he died after the fight, but did he go into the fight with a serious condition or something ?

Sharkey, Loughran and Uzcdun were all above board.

Schaffe was above board but he went into the fight with an illnes which caused inflamation of the brain. This probably resulted in his death.
