Colin is old Skool, & no matter what anyone says, you have to respect his opinion. The guy covered the sport before most people here were born. & I happen to agree with him that the fight was a joke. I said so long before the fight happened, & predicted a Haye easy win. & thats exactly what happened. Haye deserved the victory, but hes no Ali. Colin just tells it like it is.
To be fair it doesn't take Colin Hart to point out that Haye is no Ali to the (very!!) few loons that made that comparision but that doesn't automatically make the rest of the statements made in that article pearls of wisdom as well.
I read the thread on boxrec a while ago Gaz, & to be honest didnt memorise Hartes column. I just read it for what it was, & it was pretty much the truth, if the truth be told. IMO. Harte shouldnt be shot down for dismissing Hayes win as the sham it was, come on Gaz, you know your boxing, was Valuev anything other than Harte described him? Harte lived in an era when fights were fights. & his whole attitude about that old boxing ref telling Haye & Valuev to fight or he would throw them out? It just ties into my general point I keep making here about how boxing will soon lose the fight with UFC if we keep seeing **** like Khan running & Haye running on our shores. People dont pay money to watch judges scorecards, they pay to watch action in the ring. Colin may be old & bitter, but he knows **** when he sees it. & the sooner boxing wakes up to the fact that two negative guys doing nothing in the ring is killing our sport? The better. Brock Lesnars last win was more entertaining than Haye-Valuev, & Lesnar was slated for it! Why was it more entertaining? Cos at least there was a fight. Haye & Khan on these shores are PPV fighters, they have to fight. All this running is killing our sport, trust me. I should know, cos as a boxing fan for nearly 30 years, boxing aint giving me my fight fix anymore, on these shores anyway. UFC is the lesser sport, BUT. Its giving me my fight buzz more than boxing nowadays, & if its making my old head turn, whats it doing with the younger generation that never grew up with boxing?
i think the problem with what hart said, is that haye fought the fight he had to,and hart hardly reconized that, even being the know it all he is,how the hell can you knock down a tree without a axe. i have watched most of hayes fights and i can't remember him boxing on his back foot like that,if he went in close and tried to tie valuev up and fight him on the inside, you would not of seen haye,he would of been smothered. and compareing haye to khan, haye has boxed on the back foot in 1 fight, which was the way to beat him,he is not bothered about his chin,he gets dropped and gets back up AT WORLD LEVEL,where as khan, has boxed on his back foot, making sure he don;t get hit,cos he is worried about his chin, since he moved up to world level, after ***an:bart
The lost generation of cocaine-snorting heavies in the 1980s are among the worst, prior to Tyson. Dokes, for example, was held to a draw by Mike Weaver in his first defence and then sparked in his next defence in his own hometown by white South African Gerrie Coetzee at the height of Apartheid.
Colin Harts comments would be taken more seriously if he hadn't picked Valuev to win the fight...the sham is that Colin would have slagged Haye off win, lose or draw, that isn't objective journalism, that is an agenda and he should be brought to task for it :deal...the Sun is the ideal home for poor journalism as displayed by Colin Hart
Very enjoyable book. I borrowed a copy from my local library and had finished it within two days. :good
****sake Icemax, I didnt know that Hart had picked Valuev to win, I thought that the guy knew like me that Valuev was an accident waiting to happen. Therefore I apologize for sticking up for Colin Hart, if he picked Valuev to win then he should at least give Haye some credit. Man, I cant believe Hart gave Haye so much **** when he won after he picked Haye to lose! No wonder people are Hart hating.
Leon Spinks? Bruce Seldon? Johnny Ruiz? Greg Page? Toney Tubbs? Bonecrusher Spmith? Johnny Tate? Mike Weaver? Sergei Leyakovich? My friend, there arre crappy heavyweight titlist enough to fill up at least a solid Page.
