Yes that was a great, great fight. Apparently Jirov was coming off an injury and didn't get to train the way he would have liked to. Still that's one hell of a fight for the ages. Hard not to watch that fight and not become a fan of both fighters. :good

His nickname wasn't "the russian tiger", it was "Balkhashskii tiger". Balkhash is his birthplace in Kazakhstan. The Americans called him "the russian tiger" because it was comfortable to pronounce.

I don't understand why some people take credit away from a Kazahstani fighters and call them Russians? He represented Kazakhstan all his life. He won his Olympic gold medal for Kazakhstan also. He's kazakh fighter.

It doesn't matter what he is, Russian, Kazakhstan, part Asian, point is before he retired he was a beast in the ring, for me the fight with Toney was the fight of the decade:deal.

His fight with James Toney was definitely one of the best action fights I've seen from an European fighter. I wish that Jirov would have come to the US to fight before he had, and gotten with a good American trainer. He would have been something special.
At Middleweight, I would have loved to seen a match-up of Jirov Versus Calzaghe.

Everything until the KO round in any Abraham fight is garbage.
