Of course he is the undisputed champion he has all three belts. You may think there is a better boxer in the division but it doesn't stop him being the undisputed champion.

There is no reason at all to assume that Vic is better than Montiel, just as there was none to assume Mijares was better than Montiel. This fight has to happen. Vic has the belts, just like Kessler did, but Montiel is still the man to beat, like Calzaghe was...

Which is why we have fights, to determine the better boxer and the new champion but that the possible outcomes of a fight with Montiel don't affect Darchinyan's status as the current undisputed champion.

Absolutely he still needs to beat Montiel. Anyone who says otherwise is being an idiot or a jackass. Regardless of belts, there's a fighter who's been ranked #1 or #2 in the weight class for years now without losing, and you can't become UNDISPUTED without beating him. Also, anyone who doesn't recognize the WBO as a major belt at this point is just being a ****.

Undisputed champ is defined as having all the relevant belts. Vic has all the belts. If you think there's a better fighter in the division that your opinion and has nothing to do with who is undisputed champ.

If we start counting WBO as mandatory for being undisputed then when will it stop? Five years from now (2013) you will complain a fighter is only unified and not undisputed when he holds the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, and IBA...but not the WBU.

WBC, WBA, IBF = Undisputed (unless the linear champ has vacated his belts, or if the holder of the WBO is linear, which has never happened unless he simultaneously held one of the three major ABC belts anyway)

Exactly. You don't have to be the best fighter to be the champ. You have to WIN the title...it's not a beauty contest where they just hand you a title on paper alone. Look at Baldomir.

In other sports, look at a team like the New England Patriots of the NFL who went 16-0 in the regular season. They were the most talented team...but not the champs after they lost in the Super Bowl.

Yes he is. I actually want a Montiel vs. Vic before an Arce vs. Vic. I think Montiel can KO him and if Arce has anything left he can beat him also.

    WBO isn't as important.

They're the three main belts at the weight. That's undisputed enough for me.

WBA/WBC/IBF = Undisputed. You may not like it but it's how it works. That's why Lewis-Holyfield, Hopkins-Trinidad, Zoo-Judah and Bell-Mormeck were for the undisputed title.
