Calzaghe was THE MAN (i.e. linear) but he wasn't undisputed until he beat Kessler - that much is true.

Bearing in mind he was stripped of the IBF title for refusing a chump mando I will give him that.

Next will be the IBO. Then the WBU.

    lol.

You're the one who wants to stick to online definitions. I already said what i considered to be an undisputed champion.

Before Darchinyan moved up to 115, there were 2 top dogs at 115. Mijares and Montiel: Now Darchinyan has moved up and knocked off Mijares. So how the **** is he undisputed? Montiel is still there.

fair enough. Although i don't believe the linear champ is always the man (Erdei) and personally did not consider Calzaghe the man at 168 until he beat Kessler. Also i was unaware of the lineage going through Reid.

Montiel wasn't actually a champion. He may have been the best but he wasn't a champion. Now that Darchinyan has won the undisputed title Montiel may still be the best but being the best and being the champion are two different things.

You may have felt that Jermain Taylor was the best at middleweight before he fought Hopkins but it wouldn't have changed the fact that Hopkins was the undisputed champion. Taylor had to beat him for it.

i made my point and its pretty clear. You're either not getting it or purposefully answering on the side because you know i'm right.

I'm not saying i feel Montiel is the best 115lb fighter. I'm saying neither Darchinyan nor Montiel are undisputed champion until they fight each other.

And the Taylor/Hopkins comparison doesn't hold here. its not the same situation. Are you comparing Darchinyan to Hopkins? and Montiel to Taylor. its completely different! Hopkins was already undisputed champion before Taylor was even around.

According to various ad-hoc rules which you like to bring up, yes. But in fact, if you accept any of the Big Four, you have to accept that they all accept the other three too. So you cannot say the WBO is not legitimate and say that any of the WBA, WBC or IBF are, since these three recognise the WBO as legitimate! How can something be legitimate if it recognises something illegitimate as legitimate.

So...either they're all four legitimate, or none of them are, in which case they're all equally illegitimate.

So...we're back to square one. Montiel is recognised as a champ by most people; he's be recognised as a champ by most people even if he were a WBU Champ, because he's good and proved it against good fighters who prepared to fight him for a title they recognised as a world title - that's all that matters. Since he is recognised as a Champ by all his peers and fellow Champs, including Darchinyan, Darchinyan is not undisputed. It's as simple as that, mike.

I don't see why I have to recognise everything that one organisation recognises just because I recognise that one organisation. That's just silly.

It's not! Any fighter out there in the world recognised the WBO as a world title. If given a shot for it, they would prepare for it as thoroughly as they'd prepare for a shot at any other title out there. They could then command the same respect and purses for holding the WBO title as they would have for holding any of the other three and they would be able to unify their title against any of the other three par-to-par. Any of the other three's Champs would call a fight against the WBO Champ a unification fight, in a way they wouldn't call a fight against the IBO or WBU Champ, for example. They would call themselves unified champs if they won, too, in a way they wouldn't call themselves unified champs if they held on fo the Three titles and the WBU or IBO for example.

Even if I started the "Decebal's Own World Championship" title, recognised by no one on ESB except for myself, as long as all the fighters recognised it as a world title and treated it as such, it would instantly become a world title equal in worth to the IBF, WBC or WBA.

Proof that everyone recognises the WBO title is that if they had no title previously and they win it, they never throw it aside saying: "I only took the fight because I wanted to prove I was better than the guy who carried the WBO strap around. I am not interested in this so called world title. I am trying to land a fight against a real champion so I will ask the WBA, WBC and IBF to rank me as a challenger, so I can work my way up the rankings and get a shot at a world title." But...they do that where the IBO/WBU is concerned.

Why don't you read again my post? I said he was beaten by Donaire who is going up to 115. Isn't that clear that he beat Darchinyan, embicile, in 112? For him to be considered an undisputed champion, he should beat Donaire first who beat gave him that L in his record.
Otherwise, IMO, Donaire can considered the linear champ. Otherwise, he is only a unified weight champ.

But all boxers don't recognise the WBO. What did Carl Froch say recently on Bunce's Boxing hour? "I'm going for the WBC one of the THREE proper world titles". Of course some are goign to say they recognise the WBO - especially when they are/were WBO champions but 100% of fighters recognise the WBA/WBC/IBF.
