Povetkin beat Prime Chageav and prime Chambers.
Chambers beat Peter who is Vitali's best win. Povetkin beat Byrd who beat Vitali.

Povetkin has better wins that Vitali. Fact

He was still standing and capable of fighting. He had to retire due to the blood coming out of the cut.
Lewis did that cut with the underside of the gloves where the laces are:
    This content is protected

When an illegal shot causes damages that lead to a stoppage, the rule say go to the cards, which did not happen here.
IMO I don't think Lewis did it on purpose or anything, but it still pretty clear that's how the cut happened.
Anyway, like I said, there's no shame whatsoever in losing to Lewis.

I could see a case for Lewis, Fury and Bowe, perhaps even for Ali and Holmes, but never for Foreman.

Nah, not for me, although he would have given just about every HW something to seriously think about.

He lost to the faded champ of the previous era. . The torch was there and he wasn't good enough to take it. There is shame in that.

It would be the same as Tyson losing to Larry Holmes , Marciano losing to Joe Louis , Dempsey losing to Willard , Ali losing to Liston , Joshua losing to Klitschko , Lewis losing to Holyfield. Greats don't lose passing of the torch fights

Why is that an "illegal shot"?

Your " facts ". Never mind the fact where they were rated. I like the fact that you may be starting to rate fighters by era. Do you use also use Ring Magazine ranked contenders as a benchmark for quality of opposition fought. I might like that Dino.

Are open glove shots that land feature the palm of the glove legal? If the referee does not call it yet, yes they are.

Just like when Lewis Ko of Grant when holding his head. Perfectly legal.

That video does not show an "open glove shot" that "feature the palm of the glove." Watch it.

I don't think you can entirely divorce Vitali's poor resume from speculation about his cross-era, H2H prowess; especially, since he lost to the two best opponents he faced in his own era (and didn't meet a good number of other potential opponents).

I would venture a guess at him being competitive in most eras - but that's about it!

Anything else would be contributing towards the mythology around the man.

Vitali had 3 cuts and 64 stitches, the punches that caused them can be plainly seen on film.

I never have problem countering your " information ". Yes it was a significant fight won by Povetkin. Were was Chagaev ranked at time of the Povtekin fight? Ahead of Perter or Sanders? That would be an no. I show him at 9th behind Soils, Areloa, and Adamek. Gee who fought and beat them? Have a look. Foiled again. How did I do? No counter argument, right? :roflmao:

You are crossing eras. Do you think the contenders in the 1920's, 1930's or 1950's were better than the contenders in Vital's era ( 1996-2013 )?

    Poor resume you say?

One does never have to watch a single Vitali fight to play your game of boxrecing rankings.

Its been pointed out to you many times (when it is you always go running) that Wilder has a higher rated win than Vitali when he beat #2 RANKED Bermane Stiverne.
So there's goes your whole criteria for rating Vitali right down the toilet. Now you have nothing because his best win was soundly beat by 6 foot Eddie Chamebrs who couldn't punch through wet paper. . The forum can watch you run away again today.
