You do know Cobb have a granite chin? I doubt Vitali would KO him. And Gerry Cooney isn't 'rubbish'. Plus he was primed and unbeaten when Holmes faced him.

You seem to be writing of the 80's contenders are woeful, compared to today's?

Look at Holmes' resumé from the 80's, not great, but still consists of:

    • Tim Witherspoon
    • Gerry Cooney
    • Carl Williams
    • 'Bonecrusher' Smith
    • Renaldo Snipes
    • Mike Weaver
    • Ken Norton
    • Trevor Berbick

It's indicitive of how pitiful Klitschko's resume really is when a guy having Norton pretty much rules out any chance of his being behind Vitali. Still, he should rank highly on dominance, though I'm not so in love with his skillset as everyone else seems to be. I definitely think a spot in the top 30 can be justified.

Haha, I can be dogmatic like the rest but at least I know my place. I think I'm a good analyst and have decent knowledge especially within my faves like Marciano, Frazier, Ali, etc. But... I know that the majority of the best posters on the classic section know more than me. That's why I'm so strong-minded on respective issues I believe I know very well.

So you're 100+ years old? I mean you were there to witness the speed, agility, & power of these former greats?

Granted, we can't just merely write them off either but let's be realistic too.

Also, let's not rank Heavyweight fighters for what they achieved at lower weights, since that's not where we're rating them in the first place.

You ask for 25 hw's who could rank ahead of him "purely on resume" and as soon as two people produce such a list you move the goalposts and start talking about speed and power.

    Poor form :-(

What's the difference, it's not like we're ranking based on H2H. You said legacy, so why would I have to have seen them in person? Or even on film...

I'm not saying Corbett beats VK, if that's what you're suggesting. I have no qualms putting Jim Jeffires ahead of VK. After all, the guy was ranked #1 by most historians until the 30's-40's. So how does VK get a pass ahead of him because he came 100+ years later? After all, it's their respective greatness you asked for. No?

That's fine, I still think Charles and Tunney rank above him, especially Charles he has many wins over top ranking fighters. For his 3 wins against Walcott alone I think he deserves to be ranked ahead. Tunney just scraps by.

That's just moved VITLAY down about 50 places seeing as using your logic he has to be below Chris Byrd.

You obviously have a problem with reading comprehension. Let me help you out:

    1. We've all determined that there are approx. 25 or so fighters that could be ranked ahead of VK based on resumé, so that means he's around 25 to 30 based on that resumé.

    2. Of course there's confusion about what justifies ATG status since it's largely based on opinion. Some could say that to be an ATG you must be ranked top 10 based on resume or head to head, others might say ATG means top 100 since so many other boxers have come before being 1 of the best 100 would still justify ATG status. Follow?

Well you seem to be saying that to be ranked ahead of another fighter, a given fighter HAS to beat him, a loss rules out that possibility.

That's a new one on me, and probably utterly indefensible.

    Follow?

    Simple question.

    VK's two best wins.

Or is it just that embarrassing on your part to answer the question?

Face it, VK's resume is absolute Shi'ite and your refusal to answer my question only furthers the notion.
