A quick summary. Some people said Holmes, Foreman, Holyfield, Moore, Johnson had good shouts, I voted for Vitali though

Everyone ended up agreeing though the only thing that mattered was Lewis TKO6

Yes, in the sense that I can't think of any over 40 heavyweight that I would favour over him.

Yes. Based on the criteria of how good all the ones who were still active at 40 years of age,Vitali takes it.

Holmes and Foreman finish way higher on an ATG list, but not at that particular age.

V.K. is certainly top-3 for sure........... Only the 41 year old Foreman who KO'd Cooney in 1990 would have any real chance of beating the monster who clocked and stopped Adamek last week in Poland.... Due to styles, I'm not sure how well 40+ "Holmes or Holy" would fare against V.K.
    :huh
    V.K. is a Frankenstein at heavyweight......:yikes

    Me either.

Although I would argue that Holmes's win over Mercer and Foreman's win over Moorer are greater than any post 40 wins that Vitaly has. Actually they are on par if not better than pretty much any of Vitaly's best wins regardless of his age.

But in terms of his ability at this particular age, I'd have hard time favoring anybody in history at the age of 40 or above over him. He's definitely slowing down, it's natural, but he's still so capable that it's pretty difficult to notice.

The irony of this all is that his 4 year layoff probably perserved his body well enough that he could still compete at this age but it came at the expense of what could have been a much greater legacy.

I think Foreman's comeback was better.

However, Vitali would beat old Foreman.

TBH who would he have beaten in those 4 years that would have really elevated his legacy? Rahman? Maskaev? He was never getting the Lewis rematch so I'm not sure it'd be much better it'd have been a case of "beating old Americans" rather than the current crop of Johnson/Arreola/Adamek
