I've long thought that Louis and Wlad share many parallels with each other in a career sense, but H2H there's no comparison. Louis was simply far too small and chinny to compete with any heavyweight of the last thirty years, and it doesn't make much logical sense to argue that he would.

I like Vitali, but Louis breaks him. Byrd was walking Vitali down all night and made him quit. Louis hits much harder than Byrd and has much better shifting ability. The only person on Vitali's resume that could beat Louis is Lennox Lewis, and even he isn't known for having the best chin and could also get knocked out by Louis.

    Joe Louis KO.

Vitali is an ATG beast, but Louis' power and technique would prove too much.

As for the size difference, Vitali will enjoy some advantages, but Joe who was outweighed by 50lb to Carnera and Baer was not getting handled in the clinch, because he had all time strength.

I see this ending in round 7, when Louis slips a jab from Vitali and counters with an overhand right. Louis knocks him down 3 more times before it's called.

Vitali is better than Joe Louis as a total package. He can move better, I would say far better punch selection. More fluid. I would give Joe the edge in flat out power though.

This has to be a joke. Vitali does have quick hands for a big guy, but like his brother has no inside game to keep Louis from closing the distance. Unlike Byrd Louis would make Vitali pay for his mistakes and Vitali's size and reach won't matter since Louis fought plenty of tall heavyweights and he always crushed them.

Louis would have more problems with a guy like prime Holyfield than he would with any stiff giant heavyweight. Louis would walk through everyone on Vitali's resume except Lewis, who he might lose to.

Byrd was much harder to land a clean shot on...you are simply comparing Joe louis the legend and not the fighter to elusive awkward Byrd who was lucky to get that Vitali win did you not see the Wlad fights?...His slow feet and low hands would not fare well at all here.Considering Vitali has a chin and Louis was knocked out by Shmelling and knocked off his feet by less punchers and skilled ones than Vitali ,really its a silly match. One guy is easy to hit and predictable ( Louis ) and one stands about 6'7 and weighs 50 pounds more.

Still, Were those guys that Louis beat, that were as big as Vitali, comparable to Vitali in terms of career achievements as well as physical abilities and talent? Would they be favoured over Vitali in a H2H fight?

Can't compare different eras. Fighters and the fight game are evolving all the time. Today they are bigger, stronger and better trained than at any other time in history, and this will be true 50 years from now. Louis was the best in his day. Can't take that away from Joe.

Louis would be destroyed by vitali, far too big,and wouldnt be troubled by louis' power.
Louis was a great fighter but his resume was stacked with 'bum of the month' fighters.
On the other hand vitali's is worse,as good as he was his greatest achievement,or most memorable lets say,was his losing effort to an ageing lewis.not to slag him off in any way because i think h2h he is a bad night for most of the best ever

Look at the pace of Louis at round 10 of any fight. Then compare it to Klitschkos. Night and day.

On top of this, when Louis fought guys Vitalis size, he moved them with his punches, handled himself in the cliches, and knocked them all out. He had serious power and strength. Vitali is better than any giant he faced, but those examples prove that Louis had the physical capabilities to subdue a size advantage. And some of these guys were trained by the same guy to trained Larry Holmes. So they had some skill too.

Vitali would be one of Louis toughest matches. Maybe his toughest one. But he would KO him in the 9th after countering a jab with a slip + overhand right.
