It seems like Joe Louis is underrated today overall. Of course many people call him the greatest heavyweight ever for nostalgia reasons, but anyone who thinks he isn't one of the greatest to ever lace them up is sadly mistaken. His physicality, determination, and knockout power alone are enough to make him a beast head-to-head.

That said, he could be ponderous at times and downright slow and flat-footed at others. Though he fought some tall fighters in his day, and generally did quite well against them, he never fought someone with the size and skill of Vitali. Vitali would give him all he could handle and would probably win the fight. For God's sake, Louis would be outweighed by like forty pounds. Plus, Vitali had a granite chin.

However Vitali was stopped by Chris Byrd.

Byrd is smaller than Louis, with a shorter reach and less power. No way is Chris Byrd as skilled as Joe Louis.

Louis was one of the best. I'd say Joe Louis for sure.

Louis would have a better chance than Ali. Still slim at best, but it's a better matchup than Ali. Except when he was injured, the only fighters who ever took rounds from VK had great power, in Sanders and Lewis. Vitali could just wear down Ali with a jab all night and Ali could never get inside and wouldn't have the power to do anything about it if he could. Louis would at least have a punchers chance. Granted Vitali may have historys greatest hw chin, so it's not much of a chance, but still.

You're right, Vitali couldnt lower himself to carry Joes jockstrap so he would tell Louis' wife to do it instead after KOing Joe. And Joe wouldn't do anything about it.
