I'd tip Larry Holmes to have beaten him. Don't think you could put Vitali up there with Ali or Louis either. He was unfortunate in that other than meeting Lewis in Lennox's last fight, there weren't any Heavyweights around during his time. Look at the relevant records. Do any of the names on Vitali's jump off the page at you ?

Why Lol? He was champ from 1908 to 1915, was first african american champion, was quick, had a good defense and could punch with both hands. His fight with James Jefferies is stuff of legends. Marciano also came to mind also.

Bowe had it all ? He didn't have the bottle to face Lewis as a pro after Lewis ruined him in the Olympics.

Vitali was a great fighter, but his competition was horrendously bad so you cannot make this claim.

    Things only Vitali fans believe:

    1. Noone ever came back to win a fight from 4-2 down on the cards after six rounds to win by knockout or decision

    2. That an ill prepared for a fighter of that quality 37 year old Lewis was the prime version of Lewis.

    3. That his mutilated face was fine and he would of been able to see fine had the fight continued.

    4. That Vitali is the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Ruined? Come on now. Bowe had more talent than Lewis. Was far more exciting. What a disappoint that Bowe threw the belt in the bin.

I just think Bowe got cold feet after what Lewis did to him in Seoul. Don't get me wrong, he showed plenty of guts against Holyfield and when he was getting a beating from Golota. For whatever reason, he just never went near Lewis.
