absolutely, one of the dirtiest fighters in boxing I've seen. And worse is, he probably doesn't need it. I believe he would have outpointed Kessler and surely Green when he fought neat and fair.

I can see how some might say he is. But IMO he fights like a savvy vet years older than his actual age.

But they (B-Hop, Holy, Ruiz) probably NEED to fight that way!
He doesn't need to and still fights dirty.

Boxing isn't being about "neat".... And Ward did fight fair. He just implemented a strategy meant to take away his opponents advantages and it worked wonderfully. The height and reach of Green I thought would be a problem. It wasn't....Not b/c Green lost his reach or height before the fight. Ward simply TOOK THAT **** AWAY from Allen and made Allen his ***** for the night.

It wasn't neat....it wasn't all pretty. But that was "old school", "Phonebooth", in-fighting that clearly showed the difference between a truly dynamic and versitile fighter vs a very good, solid boxer/puncher. There were no butts, maybe one low blow on the belt line, no elbow or excessive holding. Nothing was dirty about this last fight in the super six. Ward/Kessler was a very dirty fight but no of that I felt was truly intentional.

Obviously destroying the "great hope" Kessler like he did made Ward a lot of enemies. No matter what he does from now on won't these folks from saying he is dirty.

Ward is not dirty, at all. Hope he continues to do what is necessary and within the rules to continue dominating each and every opponent.

Call it what you want. I think he's a versatile fighter who can adapt on the fly and it's refreshing to see such adaptability from a young fighter. Not to mention the guy has barely lost a round in two fights, he's the truth who will give anyone in the world 168 and down hell.

He was clearly pushing Green against the ropes, tied up one hand, leaned on him with his head down and used his free hand to hit. That isn't fair boxing in my book. And the headbutts and elbows against Kessler, was that fair boxing?

100% agree. I honestly thought Ward was still "wet behind the ears" as a pro. He looked like he was a crafty old ring vet against a young inexperienced prospect. I think the slow start to Wards career was the perfect game plan for the kid. He obviously had an EXTENSIVE AM career and early on as a pro had some very bad habits that made for a great AM style but didn't translate as a pro.

They've worked on and took their time with honing the talent, ability and skills of Ward to get this incredible final product that justifies him now being the favorite in the World boxing classic. Bute vs Ward anyone?

That fight would be incredibly tough for both men....and I'm not sure who I'd pick to win.:huh

Obviously....He wasn't pushing in terms of "shoving"...he was "pushing" Green back to the ropes with punches. The problem I have with trying to imply that Ward actully PUSHED Green is for the simple fact that Allen ALLOWED himself to be bullied as the bigger man and he WENT to the ropes in retreat.

When you're fighting on the inside you are allowed to tie up...one or both hands. If you have one hand free you are suppose to punch with that free hand or risk having the ref break up the clinch for lack of action.

MOST of the time ward was just smothering Green on the inside, shifting side to side creating openings and looking for opportunites that his SHORTER arms where made for. Green couldnt' fight as effectively b/c he simply didn't have that ability and TWO...his arms are longer.

The bows and butts in the kessler fight was not fair.....it was more unfortunate than anything intentional. And unfortunately I think Kessler was affected...but with or without the butts or bows in that fight it was clear as day who was going to win that fight. There was from the very begining signs that Mikkel was not going to beat Ward. It just so happened that there were numerous ACCIDENTAL clashes of heads due to styles.

Great topic, and coincidentaly, the perfect expert on the subject, Al Bernstein, will be a guest on todays On the Ropes radio program. Hope he speaks on this. Would be very interesting.

I dropped a post in the OTR thread for them to ask his opinion on Ward's "style of the moment".

Hope Floyd Sr also speaks about it.

LOL, if Ward had fought dirty he'd have received warnings or even point deductions from the ref.
He didn't and therefore your obvious bias is exposed as Bull****.
Now STFU you UFC worshipping SPECTATOR.

Useless point brought yet once again. Like Hatton said after the Mayweather fight "This is no tickling contest!"... You gat to be smart and cagey to make best use of your ability, Mayweather, Hopkins, Ward, whoever.

    No.

He does what it takes to win. If some of it borders on "dirty", then so be it. But he isn't a dirty fighter.
