I don't think anyone has rated his win over AA that highly. I think this win was okay. The only people who seem to hype him slightly are the show time people. Overall he gets more hate for his style and rankings than he gets praise. I think what rates Ward so highly is that he has been taking on the best in the division and dominating them. Most fighters, especially in other divisions, don't take on the other challengers and champions in the weight class. Cough *Floyd Right now he's favored, but that's because he beat the top SMW Kessler, where as the next top SMW, Froch, lost to Kessler. You can't rank a guy higher than the other if one is undefeated and the other recently lost. Until they fight or one clearly is taking on better opposition than the other you can't really change the order of the rankings
i voted 'no' and here's why: if you compare the praise Ward got before this match with the one he gets now you'll notice a small margin; he already was considered the best at 168, the man to beat, a top 10 p4p by ring magazine etc etc. I don't agree with that just yet, i am a fan of Bute and i like Froch's style. Abraham is still a good name to have on your resume and Ward has proved in his last 4 fights that he is elite at 168. We'll hopefully have Ward vs. Froch and Bute vs. Kessler and after that, the winners facing eachother; until then we'll have just words - arguing, hyping, hating etc
In many respects it was. Andre took away all the strengths of the other fighter and left him very little to hit. This was quite masterful from a fundamental boxing perspective. However unless you've studied the sport you probably wouldn't find it very entertaining. Just because you don't think it was very exciting or entertaining doesn't mean it wasn't masterful!
All I know is Ward is undefeated and has fought some names. He can do a lot in the ring. He can box, and can stand and slug. He has good defense and can get dirty. Seems to have a very good chin. For a guy with not much punching power he sure busts you up pretty good. What more do you need???!!!!
I disagree. I do no think Ward has underperformed he barely lost a round. The only guy who won rounds was Bika. Who makes every figt very ugly.
Judge for yourself whether Ward is getting overrated. Here's a list of threads with Ward's name on it right now in the last 100. King Arthur Abraham is going to brutally KO Ward This content is protected Last night showed why Dirrell ducked Ward and pulled out... I Am Starting To Worry About Andre Wards Health Poll: Joe Calzaghe vs. Andre Ward (with Calzaghe winning big!) What if Froch/Johnson beat Ward? The Americans are going to rob Froch (OK, Ward not in title) "Caveman" Froch outboxed Abraham more than Dirrell and Ward did ( This content is protected 1 2) Andre Ward ATG material. ( This content is protected 1 2) Doesn't look like a ton of praise/over-rating.
Well, that guy with double vision still managed to beat Froch so clearly he wasn't suffering that bad.
At times it was. Also Froch is quite a masterful fighter with superior boxing fundamentals in many areas. He's one hellava fighter Froch! What that hell are you trying to say?
Ward's lack of punching power will never allow him to become a mainstream star. People want to compare him to a young RJJ but RJJ was destroying opponents at 168. Ward's a good fighter and probably the best at 168 but I just don't think he'll ever become a trandscendent type of fighter. I see him as another Winky Wright type guy... he can beat just about anybody but without knocking people out, he's just not a guy that people (other than boxing purests) will ever really want to see.
Apparently you haven't been on this forum the last couple days. There have been plenty of posters trying to discredit Ward and his victory over AA. Hell I'm fairly certain that Jack had his Anti-Ward thread prepared before the start of the fight. I came to the general specifically looking for a rant by him and wasn't dissapointed.
I think Dirrell laid the blue print to beat AA and i thought he did it the best. Dirrell is a really good boxer. Hopefully he bounces back well after his long laid off.
we won't know if he is being over-rated until time tells. I believe that Ward is the best fighter in his division. Am I wrong? Only time will tell. One thing for sure is I that I'm not overrating him for his win over Abraham, because I already thought that before, so the answer to this thread is no.
