his win over AA has done 2 things.

    1) affirm those who already rated him highly.

    2) convince those who didn't.

I was in the latter. the guy is deserving of his mantle at the top of the division and in the top 10 p4p.

Ward continues to find a way to win. I don't think he's over-rated and believes he deserves all the credit he's getting. Not only is he undefeated - but he's an Olympic Gold Medalist - and I believe he said - he hasn't lost a fight since he was 12.

It's easy to try and discredit him - when comparing his wins over certain fighters to other guys that fought the same fighters. In the end - it doesn't matter how it did it - it just matters that he did it and that's WIN.

actually, it matters how he did it. Just checking if he won or lost is a sure-fire way of not knowing how good a fighter really is. You have to go beyond that and see how he performed.

Froch is a much bigger puncher than Ward and also a taller / rangier fighter. His style is picture perfect for defeating Abraham. All he has to do is stick a jab in his face and slow him down with body shots when AA is covering up. Ward actually has to get inside Abraham's punching power and also doesn't have the pop to just keep Abraham off him that easily. Although he showed that he can add some snap to his punches if he needs to, Ward doesn't have naturally heavy hands like Froch.

Styles make fights. Ward's performance taking into consideration that he had to enter the danger zone against AA is very impressive.

No the win over Abraham has not gotten Ward overrated. Most people thought he'd win big and he did just that and just because Abraham has showed he's not amongst the elite of the division doesn't mean that beating him means nothing, he's still a dangerous guy just not as good as once thought and its a good win for Ward just like it is for Direll and Froch.

What has Ward rated highly by those who do is his in the ring abilities and his current streak of top 10 fighters that he's beaten. Guys like Kessler, Bika, Green, and Abraham were all top 10 guys when Ward beat them and he beat them all pretty convincingly. Miranda may have been in the top 10 when Ward beat him but I don't think he was. Bottom line is Ward is beating good fighters, fight in and fight out, while showing a wide range of skills in doing so.

Saying Froch beat Abraham better or Bute beat Miranda better than Ward isn't very relevant especially when you're comparing dominant performances. You can do that with most fighters. Pavlik beat Taylor more impressivley than Froch did or Abraham beat a fresher verion of Miranda just impressively as Bute did and so on.Factors like styles, when the fights happened, etc all go into play when doing that. When you take a look at Ward's resume as a whole its starting to get deep and thats why he's rated highly by some.

Way to clutch straws by bringing up his 7th pro fight as a 21 year old. Since then he's taken flush punches from Miranda, Kessler, Green, Bika, and Abraham, all guys who can punch, and never show any signs of really being hurt in any of those fights.

Don't forget your hero was floored by the great Kabary Salem is his 38th pro fight.

I think you answered your own question. Ward is undefeated while Froch lost to a guy that Ward wiped the floor with. The best names on Froch's resume are Taylor, Pascal, Abraham, and Dirrell. That's certainly a good resume. However, it's not enough to vault him over Ward when hard has some good names on his resume as well and hasn't lost.

:good Gotta love how people tend to bring up pointless names to render their point...When its all said and done! Ward answered his critics! Not saying that he has a stone chin, but people cant use that weak chin arguement anymore!

    Good post!

What did the guy in your avatar have to say on the man?

And really, ol' Johnson outperformed Ward against Green? Because he got the back of the head KO? What did those scorecards look before that knockout. Way too much infatuation with the KO that it distorts all reality. I guess Mike Tyson and Joe Louis are far superior to Harry Greb and Willie Pep because of their devastating power.

Here's the good thing about Ward, he's willing to fight everyone. It looks like he'll be fighting Froch next. If he can win that fight, some will say Froch is nothing and that he has to beat Bute. If he beats Bute then people will have to give him his props are just claim that the entire SMW division is garbage.
