Is Ward really #1 P4P?

I don't like the guy, thought he lost the 1st Kov fight and it's still my opinion that the 2nd should be changed to an NC

However, he moved up and went after the guy considered to be a top 5 P4P and beat him twice. In my book he is currently #1

 

To me the P4P #1 fighter should be winning his fights in a conclusive manner. Ward doesn't do that. I don't have an issue with him being #2 or #3. To be #1 you shouldn't be having fights with disputed scorecards or fights where you hit a guy clearly below the belt (last punch of the Kovalev fight) and get a 'stoppage'. P4P #1 should be winning all his fights by a clear and convincing manner. That is what makes them #1 and better than anyone else.

 

Ward fought well against Kovalev so he get`s the crown by default since no-one has done anything recently enough to match that feat also he`s a brilliant fighter and better than almost anyone around just based on pure ability, you`ll have a better argument after we find out the winner between Canelo and GGG, the first punch that had Kovalev in trouble was devastating and may of hurt potential opponent Bellew who beat Haye at heavyweight and has fought at cruiser, if Ward beats Bellew keep in mind that Bellew is a much better fighter than Ruiz.

 

Yes, he's #1 on my list.

His wins in the Super Six, and then the 2 wins over Kovalev. He's earned the spot.

Loma, Gonzalez, Crawford, GGG, Canelo, Rigo and Spence are all up there also.

 

He isn't on my list, but he should be in the conversation for everyone's top 5 at least

 

Kovalev was also in the top P4P rankings though. Nobody else in boxing currently has fought a fellow P4P ranked fighter and beaten them decisively. So you can't really use a close victory, over a fellow top P4P fighter, as a reason to move Ward down....that should move him up.

 

can't stand the guy to be honest lost the first kov fight. 2nd fight was iffy... kov was tiring so ward may of still won but those low shots was bs. i'll put him #1 p4p for now.. the weakest #1 p4p ever in my opinion though.

 

Yes this,don't like his style myself and after the first Kovalev fight he was annoyed he wasn't given that PFP title,second fight though did.
All his peers rate him highly which is the litmus test I guess.

 

P4P is for manlets. Anthony Joshua is the king amongst boys.


And sidenote. P4P is ******ed in sport,where you many times see the boxers perform 1-2 times a year. And rarely it's against true number 1contender.

but credit for Ward taking Kovalev. However i think the competition is much tougher in lighter weighclasses. Light HW is not excatly full of talent(purely the reason the competition is not there when you are outting up the pounds.

normal average male is something like 5'11 and about max 170 pounds if really fit(of course there are exceptions) and boxing is more popular amongs smaller boys.


but again,Joshua is the king.other are just pretenders. Weighclasses were created so that manlets could brag they are king.

Joshua would **** Ward and his wife if wanted to do so. Ward could do very little to fight back.

Joshua is hinding glass in his chin. He was nearly KO'ed by a 41 year old who hasn't fought in 18 months. Plus in the real world, physical size means nothing. Joshua isn't bullet proof and if he touches another man's wife, he gets shot. That's the way the world works now. We're not cavemen anymore.

 

Yes, he's stand alone for now.
Crawford won't be able to overtake him with the names at Welterweight, none of whom are as good as Kovalev was on a H2H level.
Lomachenko will need to beat Mikey Garcia or Rigondeaux AT 126 to overtake Ward. If he doesn't beat either one of these guys, he has no chance of no.1
Ward has the other LHW beasts to fight and the Cruiserweights who are brilliant.

 

That makes no sense, it's all related to quality of opponent. Boxers who beat better quality opponents in competitive fights should be ranked over guys who beat lesser opponents more conclusively. When the best fight the best, fights are naturally less likely to be one sided.
