Why should Ward go to LHW, when he can stay in Oakland and get the LHW champ to drain himself.
Ward has never fought one top undefeated fighter and if he went to LHW, Cleverly a top undefeated fighter would be there. Better stay and fight Calzaghes leftovers at SMW

What fighters at LHW can offer Ward a bigger payday than the guys at SMW can? A fight with Cleverly (and I'm not even sure if he is the biggest draw at LHW) wouldn't make more money than a rematch with Froch or Kessler would. The money just isn't there at LHW.

 

Hop was 3 years older than Joe is now when they fought. He could of fought on as he was in his prime after just moving up to LHW and feeling a lot better at the weight, but he chose to check out instead.

Fights two old timers and calls it a day.
