    The higher standards
Tell me what was Toneys, Jones and Hopkins SMW resume and then compare it to Calzaghes.
Compare Hopkins MW to Calzaghes SMW resume and you will see you are talking out of your backside

Calzaghe's style is wrong for Toney and B-Hop had the chance to fight in 2002 but turned it down.

Theoretically since he fixed his shoulder,he could be better.

He had fought his whole career with a damaged rotator cuff up until he fought Rodriguez

Former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr, speaking with The Sunday Times, responded to Joe Calzaghe's recent claim of chasing Jones for several years and being brushed aside. Calzaghe spoke with The Sunday Mirror and appeared to have some newfound hostility when Jones' name came up.

"I spent five or six years chasing Jones and he acted like he never even knew my name," said Calzaghe. "Suddenly, I beat Hopkins in Vegas and Jones wants to be my neighbor - it's ridiculous. If a fight with Jones made sense from a cash point of view, then it could happen, but he is notorious for asking for too much money."

Jones says that he viewed Calzaghe as a possible opponent several years ago, but at the time he saw no reason to travel to Wales to chase the fight. Now that Calzaghe is the bigger star, Jones is willing to make the fight anywhere.

“I saw Joe as a potential opponent a long time ago,” Jones said. “But I had my eyes on higher things, such as winning the heavyweight title, so it was nothing against Joe, I love everything about him. He’s a fun guy, an entertaining guy, a good person. We took some pictures together with his sons after the fight on Saturday and we’ve talked on the phone. But boxing is business. When I was the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world it wouldn’t have been smart for me to go and fight Joe.

Old bloated end of career Calzaghe had Hopkins holding and hanging on :patsch
You are trying to argue for Toney who many think lost to Tiberi, didnt beat S Williams at first ask and lost to Thadzi,
Keep going about these high standards.
The real truth on this thread comes out when it is a thread about Ward and you are going on about Calzaghe

I was about to comment on this but I can see bailey has already Lacyied™ you. :hi:

Knowledgeable boxing people knew Joe existed, and they knew, unlike an internet troll who's clearly an alt, like you, that 'Zaggers was the real deal and why American PED cheats avoided him LIKE THE PLAGUE in his prime. :nod

This F16 is a poster who from his comments you can tell he picked American heroes Lacy, Hopkins and Jones to beat Calzaghe so his claim that Toney can is laughable.

Actually, Hopkins knew exactly who Calzaghe was.

Both parties had agreed in principle to fight on Showtime in 2002, after the Trinidad fight, before Hopkins' team pulled out after doubling his purse demands to $6 million at the 11th hour. Hopkins instead took some time off before fighting Hakkar and continuing on at middleweight. He held out in hopes that a smaller fighter with a name would move up to give his career an even bigger boost. That fighter was of course De la Hoya, who did in 2004, and the rest is history.

That's one reason it's so funny to see people giving GGG flak for not moving up to fight Ward now and punish him for hanging around at middleweight, hoping for paydays with huge named fighters moving up. Especially when those same people don't apply the same standards to Hopkins.

They have no sense of historical perspective, and it seems you don't, either.

Hopkins didn't need to move up in weight in 2002, and GGG doesn't need to now. It'd have been nice to see Hopkins-Calzaghe in 2002 and nice to see GGG-Ward in 2016. But that's all it is. Neither fight needed to happen at that point in time. But you can be sure Hopkins and company knew exactly who Calzaghe was.

The only person on their knees in Calzaghe v Hopkins was Hopkins trying to quit when Joe was proving to be too good for him :hi:
