It's not infighting , it's smothering . It's legal if the ref let's you do it ! If he doesn't it's not and it becomes excessive holding . Go watch I think it was Juarez v Raheem year's ago . The ref in that fight actually penalised the dude for doing it . It's that long since i have watched the fight , I think it was Zaheer Rahim who got penalised .
It's just so ******ed to see Khan get penalised in the peterson fight and then see guy's like Ward and Hopkin's virtually break every rule in the book and nothing happen's .
Guy's like Ward will hasten the demise of boxing worldwide . I guess you cant blame him if he is continually allowed . For those who say Ward's tactic's are infighting go watch some old fights . Watch a guy like James Toney and see some real ' inside ' boxing . Brawlers of the past like Jeff Fenech for hard nosed ' inside ' fighting .
Anyway it's nothing knew Ali was a huge excessive holder , great champion of course but Ali made an art form of offensive holding . I guess it depend's ' who ' you are to whether or not you are allowed to get away with it !

I was mightily impressed with ward last night and didnt see much illegal happening in there. Carl didnt do himself justice at all though, why does he always start slow as **** ?

Yeah that tends to happen when your opponent pushes it down every time you get near him.

Yea its legal, but as I said before the fight he could fight well from the outside and he was out jabbing Froch despite the Cobra having a 4 inch reach advantage. Great boxing skills by Ward.

ive said this before in an other tread, but i feel its relavent to this discussion. for a wile now the problem comes from poor reffing, allowing to much, pushing, holding, protecting with elbow to high (a la floyd), bending bellow the weaste line, stiff arm and charging the fighter not with punch lead but with fore arms. it has become normal, this is why there is muchcontradiction on what people feel is cheeting or legal. last night was a good fight. exept for a few things, i enjoyed it. keeping your arm streched out after missing the jab or strait as to have your elbow on the guys chin is protecting yourself in a maner that is not leagle, ward did this a few time but not enough to cause major bitchin from all haters. i believe ward did get a few more fan from last nights fight.

It's legal as long as his head doesn't go below the opponent's waist, which it never does.

What's questionable is when he goes in low, the comes straight up, since that can cause a head but, but in fairness to Ward I only saw him do that to Frock 2-3 times. He may actually be trying to clean up his act a little.

    - Still boring as ****, though.

Im tryin to remember but I thought Ward had a hit that landed right at the bell and thats why I think Froch did that maybe thinking it was after the bell. Def could be wrong but either way was a great fight. Ward really surprised me.

Clinching is illegal but Ward has his personal referees that allow him to clinch.

Holding and hitting can be illegal, unless it's your opponent doing the holding. Excessive holding can be illegal. The thing is if both are clinching then you can't bring one up on it. Ward doesn't actually wrestle that much, he tends to keep punching on the inside and his opponents tend to clinch

Putting your head on your opponents chest is not illegal, putting it in their face intentionally is.

Many old timers used to in fight like Ward
