Do people think that David Haye is/was overated? He unified a poor cruiserweight division and then won the WBA world heavyweight title against a poor boxer who was far too slow and then defended it against a past it Ruiz and a very poor Audley Harrison.

His 2 big victories at cruiser against Mormeck and Enzo Mac are hardly big names or great boxers. Enzo Mac was extremely overrated at the time and has never been any good.

If you compare Haye's resume with Carl Froch's resume there is just no comparison in the quality of fighters that they both have faced.

Was David Haye actually ever that good or did he just make us think he was good through his lack of quality opposition and his trash talking and bravado that went with his fights.

Ask Wallet, apparently he isn't over rated and what Adam Booth has done with him is incredible. Just don't ask him to explain his comments as he can't. :)

Its a difficult one as he was massively overrated by Sky, but not really by the fans. Say what yu want about him, he was a unified champion in a division, had to go abroad to beat Mormeck, and was the underdog going in with Enzo.

His HW career was massively overrated by Sky. He had a semi-good knockout win over Barrett (who then took Tua the distance), and beat a very static champion and had a **** poor defense again Audley. Sky were making him out to be the next big thing, when in reality he had almost know chance of outboxing Wlad, only on landing a big right hand.

Without question. People on here love to point out how he unified the division at Cruiser. Unified champion sounds nice but when you break it down, it's not really that impressive at all. Mormeck and Enzo. These guys are no better than the "bums" Haye fans call the Klitschko opponents.

His reign at heavyweight? Valuev (previously beaten more comprehensively by an ancient Holyfield), John Ruiz (not been relevant for about 5 years) , and Audley Harrison. Enough said.

at cruiserweight he was legit although very overrated at hw, which boils down to himself, his ppv capacity and bskyb

How leading is??? You're not hiding your opinion are you?

In a nutshell he unified a division, winning titles abroad. Then went up to HW picked up another title abroad, decent defence against Ruiz, one sellout and then attempted to unify (again) against another much larger fighter in his home town.

Very good, concise career. No ATG but packed a lot in 20 odd fights.

Considering how The Ring dropped him from 3rd to 5th based one 1 bad performance, but kept Adamek at 3 after he lost every single round before being knocked out, I agree. He still beats every other HW on the planet, apart from the Klits, which really isnt that bad

It depends entirely on who you ask.

Personality aside, I think he was a pretty good fighter, with (at cruiser) a fan friendly style with heavy hands and lots of flaws. At heavy he became very much the ugly duckling, his style was horrid and not particularly effective against good HW's.

His resume is decent by British standards but nothing to wank over, considering Mormeck had seen better days and Enzo was always vulnerable....

It's a case of ''what might have been'' IMO, he didn't really put it all on the line against Klitschko and became money mad, rather than hungry for success in the ring.

His best wins are in order
    1.Valuev
    2.Mormeck
    3.Ruis (shot)
    4.Barrett
    5.Harrison
    6.Maccarinelli

So yeah I would say so. The annoying thing is that if Haye actually tried to face some of the other top 10 fighters not named Klitschko he probably would have more than a 50% chance of beating a few of them, he really should have targeted quite a few of those, still could I suppose. If he did I would actually look forward to his fights.

You're outdoing yourself with stupid posts today. Mormeck was the best in the CW division. He'd put together a good run and revenged his loss to Bell.

Macca was no great shakes, but had some decent wins, particularly the one over Braithewaite. Haye also beat Fragomenni, who was a solid fighter and future champion. Hurov was a decent win considering Haye's amount of fights.

Since Haye stepped up to world-level he's only faced one "bum" in Harrison.

Your comment about Holyfield is lazy convenience. Holyfield didn't do better (he lost after all) and certainly didn't do so "comprehensively". Pure bias.

Come back when you can form an objective analysis.

Yep, overrated by many who said 'he has the style to beat Wlad'.

    His power is grossly overrated.
