I haven't heard anything from Chauncy Welliver since his loss to Odlanier Solis. Has he decided to call it quits, or will he lace the gloves up once again? I know what everybody thinks about him, but I always root for him because he is from my neck of the woods, and I think that if he were to lose a ton of weight, that he has the skills to do much more. Not world beater material, but he could make himself some more money with the right fights. Speaking of money, how much did Chauncey make for the Solis fight?

Surprised the ring didn't collapse when he fought Solis. From what I've seen he's lacking in power but looks to have decent handspeed. According to Boxrec he's scheduled to fight in March, though as usually with Boxrec, take it with a pinch of salt. I'd be surprised if he disappeared, he's been pretty active for a young guy.

:good. Yes he is pretty active. I've always liked the guy, he is funny as hell in all of his interviews. I consider myself a fan, but he really let me down bigtime showing up so heavy in the Solis fight. Any idea what his cut was?

No idea, sorry. I don't think your likely to find that information around, given that Welliver didn't look to be going anywhere and Solis is drawing in all the interest, if any, it's probably likely he got less than 25%, but honestly I wouldn't have a clue.

I consider him the first live opponent Solis has faced since Andreas Sidon on his pro debut. Like you say if he can lose some weight, he can do a lot better. Like yourself I don't think he'll progress to world level or anything, but he can do a lot better that's for sure. I know he's spared with guys like Wlad Klitschko, Tua, Chagaev, even Tyson, so he's had valuable experience with those sorts of guys.

Wow I didn't know that he had sparred with the likes of those guys. Yeah, thanks anyway, I figured I wouldn't find the amount, I heard that he finally had enough to buy his mom a house, so he must have made a fairly good size chunk of change...

Good to hear, no doubt it would of been his biggest purse by a mile. Given that it was on the undercard of Vitali vs Peter aswell which was an eagerly anticipated event and watched by a lot of people, it's a given that they brought in a fair bit of revenue through viewing figures.

Chauncy said that the fight enabled him to buy his mother a house, which was his dream. Yeah, Chauncy has been in with a who's who of boxing thru sparring. He often fights out of NZ, and I love the guy. His problem is that he likes to think of himself as the fat, dorky white guy, his nickname. And he lives up to the billing. He needs to get serious, and he could create some upsets. He's only 23 or so.

:yep Plus, if Im not mistaken, this was Welliver's first televised fight. Bigger bucks are to be had when the camera is rolling.

I completely agree with all points made. He has some real potential, he has the skills to be better. Do you know him personally or just a fan?

I'd like to see him lower his rate of activity for a while and take a rest for a couple of weeks or so and relax, then come back fresh and get some hard sparring in with some quality guys like he did before, and drop some weight, what is he 6'2"? I'd like to see him get done to about 235/240, he can definately get down more than that but that's a good place to start given he usually comes in around 270, and then try and target somebody like Shane Cameron, maybe even Tommy Morrison if he comes back, or Kali Meehan, who he was supposed to fight.

Yep. A good rest would do him some good. I think that he really needs to focus on his conditioning and take the time to get in shape and work on his technique a bit more, particularly defense. Yeah, what the hell happened, at different points of his career he was supposed to fight Kali Meehan, JD Chapman, and a few others. Those would have been good fights for him, although I don't see him beating Meehan. He needs to lose weight, work on technique, and then start working his way up in competition. That is the only way I see him becoming relevant to any degree in todays division. A fight with Tommy Morrison would be good experience for him. He wanted to fight him a few years back, but it never came off.

Ok, how about this... Does anybody know how much Solis made for this fight? This way I will be able to determine a ball park figure of how much Welliver made.
