To be a formidable heavyweight Wilder has to step up with the big boys in the game.
Wilder v Fury we wait for the contract to be signed & the fight to happen.
Till Wilder beats better guys he's overrated that's the bottom line.

No, that honor belongs to either Floyd Mayweather Jr or Vasyl Lomachenko.

Definitely a big majority is aware of his relatively lackluster resume compared to the discussion he generates.

So, I would say that he doesn't fit this qualification really.

    Yes.

Wilder had one of the slowest starts to a career I can remember, he faced literally guys you have never heard of for YEARS until "stepping up" age almost 30 against Stiverne who is.... well.... Stiverne

Gets that WBC and defends it against the sort of guys he SHOULD have been fighting in his first couple of years in the sport and has issues with many of them.

Finally aged 32 in like his 10th defence FINALLY he steps up and faces a top 10 opponent.

That opponent is 39 year old Luis Ortiz who himself is unproven against top level opponents and is also.... well.... old. And was seconds from taking a loss.

Wilder has the resume of an unproven prospect.

We do know he hits hard, but that's really about it.

The thing is though there really isn't anyone THAT good around right now so Wilder may be able to keep getting by for a while.

I have MAJOR question marks about AJ (who seems to have stagnated rather than improving) and Fury (who I think is shot) so tbf Wilder has a chance with both.

I think it's you who don't pay attention to boxing forum. The general consensus on any given boxing forum is of how Wilder is terrible.

Wilder's team offered Joshua $50 million to fight him, Joshua turned it down. Then Fury said he'd fight Wilder, and everyone and their brother said, "Don't Do It Tyson! You'll get killed!" THREE guys who did sign to fight him got busted for taking PEDS before the fight. One of them (Ortiz) finally got in the ring with him, and even though Wilder was sick with the flu and had lost so much weight on his boney frame he was nearly a cruiser, he still WASTED Ortiz.

If you step back for a moment and let that sink in, how many times has that ever happened in heavyweight history?

Guys are either outright ducking him, or being told by their fans to avoid him, or getting caught cheating while trying to prepare to face him.

So in answer to the question is Wilder overrated, his PEERS (and their fans) CERTAINLY DON'T think he is when it comes time to sign on the dotted line. And they're the ones who have to fight him, so based on their actions I'd say he's definitely feared.

Nobody's taking PEDs to prepare for Joshua or being told by their fans to avoid Joshua because he's so dangerous.
