Is Wilder the hardest puncher in heavyweight history?

Totally more powerful than Foreman, Tyson, Liston, Lewis, Shavers or Marciano. That sounds about right...:-(

It's difficult to say. Before George Foreman fought Joe Frazier, George was a 3-1 underdog. Everyone expected Frazier to knock him out, because George had mainly knocked out journeymen. Like Wilder, people thought he'd beaten a bunch of stiffs and that he was being protected.

But it didn't turn out that way.

On the other hand, Foreman was also knocking guys out in the amateur ranks, too. In the Olympics, Foreman knocked out three of his four opponents on the way to winning the gold.

Wilder,by comparison, didn't knock out anybody at the Olympics. He didn't make it to the gold medal round. And he wasn't exactly feared on the amateur level. In fact, far from being a destroyer, there's footage of him getting stopped in the amateurs (you can find it on YouTube).

So I imagine his knockouts are more likely due to matchmaking - and guys just falling down because they are supposed to - than anything else.

But time will tell. I wouldn't count on it, though.

 

Well,what about Romanov?? He schooled and knocked Wilder out- a Wildr who wore headgear during that fight.
