If Vitali is anywhere close to what he was when he last fought, he'll be the only one on Wlad's level. Big gap Then you have Chagaev (who is probably no longer a player, given not only his achilles tear, but also his apparent trouble seeing in one eye) Valuev Then you have Peter, who is a big embarrassment waiting to happen, as the McCline fight illustrated. Vitali will be the one to facilitate that embarrassment for Peter. Ruiz THose four, then you have Povetkin, who is going to be blown out of the top ten once he faces Wlad. Arreola, who is also a lackluster and **** poor prospect who'll also be smashed once he steps up. Solis....................If he can maintain a good fighting condition, he may well be a great heavyweight.
Tony Thompson: No matter what anybody might say: Wladimir is the best heavyweight in the world today, period. I never saw that right hand coming, it was a perfect punch. I am going back to the gym now, back to the drawing board, to regroup and get better. Hopefully I will get another title shot in the future, maybe Wlad grants me a rematch, who knows.
It wasnt a busted eardrum, that's just the story Don put out to the press. The real story is that he went on a little eating binge at the Rio buffet two weeks before the fight. Ended up with a chicken wing bone lodged in his ear that no one knew about till after the fight....or so I hear.:hey
Chagaev was stripped. Ruiz/Valuev fight for the vacant strap. that is a fact. chagaev's "champion on disability or sick leave" status only entitles him to a title shot by june 09. as far as im concerned, the ruiz/valuev is the beltholder and chagaev can retire for all i care. the best scenerio would be wlad taking out povetkin, then fighting Valuev in early 09 for the ibf/wbo/wba belts. then, once wlad disposes of that tub, he can fight chagaev who will be the wba mandatory.
Consider this. In the scheme of things, here are Wlad's last eight victories. Tony Thompson - rated in Ring Top 10, mandatory. KO'ed for the first time in a fight. Sultan Ibragimov, Undefeated WBO Champ, Rated in Ring Top 5 (#3) in Rankings at time of defeat Lamon Brewster - beat Wlad previously, lost in a barn stormer against Liakhovich, still Ring Top 10 at the time of defeat, although arguably not worthy of that spot... but still, a revenge fight for Wlad. Ray Austin, Mandatory, Top 10 Ring Rated, Drew with Ibragimov in the fight prior to being decimated by Wlad. Calvin Brock, undefeated, mandatory, Top 5 Ring. Chris Byrd - IBF Champ, Top 5 ring rated, longest title holder in HWs at that point. Sam Peter - Undefeated, Top 10 Ring (now Top 3), Title Eliminator So... his last eight fights, all against Ring Top 10 opponents. How the **** is anyone doubting this guy? #1 - Wlad Klitschko
Nuff said, but I will add more. Wlad owns two world title belts, and owns a win over another belt older in Peter. Essentially this is THREE Belts. Who else in boxing has two belts in one divison, plus a win over another current champion in the same divison? Anyone, anyone, anyone..... its Wlad.
Yes, he's proved himself a lot more than the fellow fighters in the division o far, needs to unify all the belts and rematch Sam Peter though and his situation will be a lot better than it is But he's on the road to doing that.
