Yes, Top 5 for Wladimir is too high at this point. I have him in at #9 or so, depending on which day you ask me.

How many other ATG Heavys can say they have been fighting at this top level for as long without a round clearly on the cards? Also remember the insanely high KO percentage with well over 50 fights...........weak competition or not, that's impressive.

 

..........and if they actually took the time to watch tapes of those guys fighting I think their opinions of those fighters would drop significantly.

I am a Wlad fan. Have been for years. Certainly one of the most dominant champions ever. But unfortunately ATG status only comes from fighting a level of competition that sadly just isn't available for Wlad. Not even faded versions. We will probably never really know how great he is or isn't.

He is, however, underrated by most, and overrated by some. He's a genuine ATG that would be extremely strong in any era.

I think in 10, 20 years after Wlad retires, and he either breaks Louis' record, or comes close to it, cooler heads will prevail, and he'll get his due props. . .

Of course he will never be a top 10 ATG or something. . . But I think he will definitely be deserving of a top 15-12 ATG HW, at least. . And he'll crack the top 100 fighters of all time. DEPENDING on what he does over the next 4-5 years, or however long he sticks around. . Being the most dominant HW champ in history is not something that cna be written off, competition notwithstanding. .

But honestly, I would say there are plenty of guys who are top 25 type ATG (pound for pound) who are severely underrated. . . Sugar Ray Leonard comes to my mind, even though it seems impossible to be able to underrate a guy like him, I see it all the time.
