    I have him tenth.

I'm gonna say definitely I can't see an argument for wlad ranking behind dempsey, charles, patterson and the like.

For one he's been the top hw in the world for 6 years running. Very few can match that, even less in one stint. In this time he's fought about ten opponents who've been top ten ranked at some point, very few can match that, even fewer without loss inbetween.

H2h I see very few prevailing against him.

Resume wise he isn't overly impressive in the grand scheme, but within his era he's fought all the top available names. I have him 9/10 and can abide him being somewhere in the top 15.

Anything less and people must simply use different criteria to me.

I still think Wlad has a chance to go as high at 7 or 8 but his resume will only get better while these legends are done and set

People use statistics and records far too much. **** all of that. If fighters all fought an equal level of opposition, it'd be a perfect way to analyze a career but as they don't, records alone are pointless. Lightweight is a weak division right now and if that doesn't change for 10 years and one fighter like DeMarco dominates for that 10 years, does it mean he should rank ahead guys like Williams? Of course not.

Records mean nothing. I don't care about titles defences or years at the top. If that meant a ****ing thing, you'd have Erdei alongside Charles.

Quality of opposition is what counts. You can be hypothetical and argue a guy is H2H great or say its not their fault they fought in a weak division, but high rankings are not built on opinions, they're built on facts.

The best fighter Wlad has fought was outboxed against Fres Oquendo. He beat Chagaev who was struggling with illness and he was so unfit he couldn't get a license. He beat Ibragimov who went from being a good fighter to working with Jeff Mayweather and struggling against Ray Austin.

That is not an impressive resume.

I currently have him just oustisde of the top 10, and admit that he has arrived ther grudgeingly. He has grown on me in the past few years....not as a fan of his style but an appreciator of his skill and yes even greatness. Lennox Lewis likewise was not revered highly unill a couple of years past retirement and most have him in the 5-10 range some as low as 3-4 (I discredit anyone who rates him 1-2)..Wlad very well may be a top 10 guy when we look at his career in retrospect.

    Currently:

    01 Joe Louis
    02 Muhammad Ali

    03 Larry Holmes
    04 George Foreman
    05 Lennox Lewis

    06 Joe Frazier
    07 Rocky Marciano
    08 Jack Johnson

    09 Evander Holyfield
    10 Mike Tyson

    11 Jack Dempsey
    12 Sonny Liston
    13 Jim Jeffries
    14 Wlad

    15 Schmeling
    17 Bowe
    18 Vitali

    19 Floyd Patterson
    20 Jersey Joe Walcott
    21 Ezzard Charles

So you seem to be saying that a boxer is only as great as his opposition??? I would say greatness is measured by much more than that, although the resume of opposition should be and usually is a factor of consideration.

Good post, my list isn't far off. I have Wlad in at 11, higher than Liston Jeffries & Johnson.

I have spaces in between, suggesting a tier ranking system rather than numbers (although I did use numbers)...by my rating I have Wlad in the 11-14 range...I won't even argue anyone who has him top 10, although I do believe top 5 is going a bit overboard at this stage.

He can never be top 10 because he only fights half a division when previous fighters had to face everyone.

If Jimmy Young and Ken Norton ALLIED o theyd have an impressive record as well.

    -Jimmy Young beats Foreman
    -Norton beats Ali
-They refuse to fight each other to prolong their careers

Any 2 average Heavyweights would prosper if they employed a tag team alliance like the Klitschkos

To all who rate him outside of the top 20....Do you have a list that you would care to post???? Or is this merely an uniformed and biased opinion that you spout for no legitimate reason....I would be extremely interested to see just who these 20 HW's are that are greater than Wlad.
