    Greatness isn't about entertainment.

Im old enough to remember how Holmes and Lewis were derided as being boring and uninspiring.

I'm old enough to remember my Dad saying Marciano fouled his way to a win over ****ell .
I never thought of Holmes as boring ,he just suffered for being in Ali's shadow. Lennox could be less than inspiring and often was.

Its my belief that if Wlad had to fight in The US and within the rules without his illegal tactics , he'd lose to such guys like:

    Larry Donald
    David Tua
    Ike Ibeauchi
    Tony Tucker
    Ray Mercer
    Oilver Macall
    Buster Dougals

Are those guys any worse than Purrity , Brewster and Sanders?

Go study the Williamson fight. That fight told me everyting i need to know about Wlad. Wlad quit that fight. He was on his way to a stoppage loss and his team pulled him out on a little cut above the the eye.
Ive seen fights go the distance with worse cuts than that. He tapped out and refused to give TOS a rematch.

A good champion , but far from great.

Thank you. Just my opinion, but hopefully it resonated with some.

But still, these guys gave us moments in their careers that we could hold onto, talk about.

Just for instance, a young rather inexperienced Lewis was thrown into the deep end against Ruddock. Yet, he blew him away in an extremely impressive performance.
Wlad has never done anything like that. He would have rendered an anemic performance against that same Ruddock, win or lose.

Holmes engaged in a thrilling fight with Norton, got up and won after being hit with a titanic right hand from Shavers, as an old man won impressively against a rampant Mercer etc.
Again, Wlad has never done anything like that. These are moments which sometimes define careers and elevate fighters.

Plus, Holmes had that attitude, a legitimte badass. Lewis in his own quiet way, the same.

Let's face it; if we discuss any Wlad fight at length, it is the fights he has lost.

I don't want to knock the guy just because. But the question is whether Wlad is an ATG, and while on paper his career is extremely impressive, it actually in reality has been one long but uninspiring run.
If he wasn't a heavyweight, would anyone care at all?

Wlad has gone undefeated over a longer period than Marciano's entire career.

So, when champions fight down to the level of their competition, a la a used up Norton or Ruddock, we celebrate them?

And Rock made a far greater impact on the sport in that shorter lenght of time.

Says more about Wlads lack lustre run more than anything else.
