I much prefer the way Spaniards speak Spanish (as in Trenado's corner). More deliberate and less hurried with better enunciation and fewer 'shortcuts' (abbreviating or slurring together words) and peppered with less regional slang than do their counterparts in Latin America. Huge jump in comprehensibility, to my ears anyhow.

 

That was like the second or third time Trenado went down on what could've been ruled a KD from a punch, but the ref calling them slips.

Otherwise though I do like this ref. He admonished Virgo's corner during the stoop break a couple of rounds ago "too much Vas on his nose, clear some off". Rare you hear an official so vigilant on that, and it gets frequently exploited with guys sent out wearing huge globs.

 

This'll be the first time for either man seeing a round seven.

 

Body shot KD early on, then another via straight right on the chin as the clock winds down. Followed by a THIRD knockdown inside three minutes, just before the bell, and that'll do! Will he make it to his stool to lose a 10-6 round and fight another? McCann says no!

Stephen McKenna vs. Jack Dempsey Ewbank, 6 rounds @ welterweight

 

Jack Dempsey Ewbank (what a name for a fighter!) is a late replacement, I'm fairly certain, The undefeated Stevie "The Hitman" McKenna - brother of Aaron in the co-main event - was originally supposed to be involved with some kind of title bout here, not a 6-rounder.

 

Yep, commentators confirmed, was meant to be a youth title opportunity vs. a fellow unbeaten and Ewbank came on like zero notice.

 

McKenna forces the white towel in after not even two minutes of ferocious sustained attack.

TKO1!!!

Stevie's now 11-0 (10) with seven of those coming in the first round.

 

Classy move by Team McKenna; they asked the ring emcee to publicly thank Ewbank on their behalf for accepting the fight after the previous opponent had an issue at the weigh-in and invite the crowd to give him a round of applause.

 

They're showing a graphic now saying the next bout won't be for another half an hour (20:45 GMT)
