I'm actually in the middle of writing a bio thread on Yoshinori.

...but don't really consider him a middleweight, even though his early career was spent there. He made his name globe-trotting at higher weights in his middle age.

Did he win his farewell bout? Did it even happen?

It was 2 round (of 2 minutes) exhibition with Shintaro Matsumoto, so of course no winner.

Ah ok. I knew he was the 'main event' @ Korakuen Hall (as the point of the whole show was his retirement party) but had assumed he would bow out with a last sanctioned pro bout, not an exhibition. Though I suppose he is a bit too rusty and old now for that not to have potentially gone very wrong and become an embarrassment no matter how 'safe' a foe they picked.

He can fight a Heavyweight bout but can't fight for the Japanese Heavyweight title (they effectively said he can't fight a 10 rounder)

Whilst guys in the US are allowed to fight where they want the JBC have all sorts of rules to try and stop embarassment on themselves...something Texas and California (amongst other states) could well try and emulate.

The whole point of campaigning there was to challenge Kyotaro. ..

Ishida is getting used to the extra weight, will gain more, but slowly.........Ishida had never been stopped, not even knocked down until he fought Golovkin who knocked him through the ropes and out cold............

    YDKSA Ishida, Farmy. :nono

He was rocked both times by Kaneyama and down in the rematch.

He was roughed up and hurt progressively more and more in the second half by a sloppy and poorly conditioned Rigoberto Alvarez, who also knocked him down. (although Ishida had enough rounds in the bank to have defended his title and lost it on a bad hometown decision...)

He was rocked a bit in a public exhibition spar with 61 year old Toshiaki Kaneko - who boxed professionally before Ishida was even born - a few years ago.

He was battered around the ring by tiny (5'9") Bones Kelly for several rounds after getting off to a strong start and scoring a couple of early knockdowns but gassing and losing control as the plucky Aboriginal Aussie swarmed him and took away his four inch height advantage in what ultimately amounted to a gift draw for Ishida.

    This really sucks.

C'mon. Fighters fight guys on 48 hours notice dragging them up 3 divisions all the time. Nobody bats an eyelash.

****, a fight gets stopped early and everybody whines about it.

Anybody who thinks that Ishida shouldn't be allowed to fight, despite passing medical exams, is likely a hypocrite in many other aspects.

The poster for Nakagawa/Shibata II is now on Watanabe's site, that looks like a good one in an OPBF/Japanese title unification at Middleweight

    I agree.
But, if i'd be Ishida, i'd wait some more months to get accustomed to that weight.
You can put on mass fast, but being able to move it around for 12 rounds is a totally different thing.
He had some troubles already in the second of their two matches of the exibition.
He should better wait some more months.
