Island Fights 46: Roy Levesta Jones, Jr. vs. Christopher Scott Sigmon RBR

Round 5

Roy is drifting into a corner willingly, toying with Sigmon, letting him think he's applying effective pressure and then punishing him with series of uppercuts on the several bleeding facial orifices. Sigmon loses his gum shield and there's another long delay over it. Jones looks impatient and paces around twitching his limbs to stay loose and warm. Time in. Sigmon walks into a 1-2-1 between the eyes and hurtles forward to body up against Jones on the ropes. Sigmon keeps involuntarily lowering his elbows to protect his flanks as Jones pounds them with quick sneaky hooks in different locations in an unpredictable rhythm, and then awkwardly trying in vain to extricate his arms up past Jones' to summon an offensive moment of his own, just to be shut down with a counter hook the moment he winds up. Jones defending without ever lifting his own arms, just keeping them crossed over his chest to either pick off Sigmon's weak body shots or raising nearly to his chin to stuff the opponent's arms down and pin them. Lots of torso wriggling by Roy as well, but mostly for show, he's doing 90% of his defense by just waving his arms in an 8" square.

Well, good on Cujo for lasting until the halfway mark. Wonder how long he'd last with Gassiev? Would it even be the halfway mark of the 1st?

 

Round 6

Sigmon is flurrying nonstop, determined now, pitched forward on his toes and stumbling into Jones with his own momentum. Jones blocking everything or taking an occasional knuckle pad obliquely across his ear drum and shrugging it off, countering with mostly big hip-twisting hooks on the body, many delivered while bent over. A few uppercuts on the chin & nose sprinkled in. Jones landing counters at will. MUCH higher workrate from Sigmon.

His left hasn't once been thrown straighter than a pig's tail.

 

Round 7

Jones is catching Sigmon on the way in with straight kneading combos on the now horribly inflamed schnoz, and landing the uppercut with a loud smack on the broad underside of the wattle. Sigmon has extensive swelling over his left eye now. Sigmon not even taking aim with his shots now (which isn't to say he was carefully picking them before), just flapping away in the general direction of Jones' body with both hands, almost blindly with his face down marching forward. No headhunting. Jones, on the other hand, is luring Sigmon across the ring and having a blast playing with a willing mobile target, showing off different combinations to head and body.
