Laguna's unfought masterpiece. It would have been an absolute boxing clinic....the most skilled footwork,...masterful hand speed and boxing moves...that would have been seen in this fight...with Edwin ultimately battered to a standstill...the referee stopping the fight, as Laguna lands everything he would throw vs Chapo. As good as Rosario was, the quality fighter that he was,...this would have been an awesome, highlight reel performance by Ismael Laguna.
Laguna, as stated by RC, would have a masterful performance here, though Rosario would have his moments.
Laguna, it must be remembered, had an excellent chin...hr was never knocked out, and I can't even recall an occasion when he was even decked (can anyone here?), so I think that in the event of Rosario getting something across, I think that Laguna would have taken it well and would have resumed his course of boxing, moving and punishing Chapo. POST SCRIPT: I recall a report of Ortiz-Laguna lll that in one of the rounds that Ortiz was dominating in that 15 rounder, that Carlos landed a particularly damaging right to the head, and paraphrasing to the reporter, it was "miraculous that Laguna didn't go down from the shot,..instead keeping his feet and his balance beneath him...and regaining his composure in a flash"... That was, as I said, paraphrased, but accurate...Laguna had great recooperative powers as well as a world class chin on him.
Laguna was on a different and higher level than Rasario. Laguna would school Rasario. Rasario wouldn't have a answer against the super skilled and quick Laguna. Either late stoppage or unanimous decision, their would be no doubt about Laguna's victory against one dimensional Rasario .
Laguna ,, because I don't think Rosario could seriously hurt him and he can't outbox him. Though Edwin was not bad at 135
Laguna by decision, as despite his perceived vulnerabilities, Rosario actually could take a decent shot. He took 11 rounds of bludgeoning without going down against Chavez after all, and Laguna couldn't hit like that. Laguna UD.
Boxing doesn't always work like that though. Of course Laguna didn't hit as hard as Chavez... but he hit a lot faster, and he'd be hitting Chapo with shots he doesn't see. Now, Rosario did do well against two speed demons (Camacho and Davis) but neither Camacho nor Davis was as good a technician as Laguna.
Ismael Laguna by unanimous decision, he would box Edwin Rosario, the same way he fought Chango Carmona, on April 3 1971.
