Prime Laguna in 1965 split with Carlos Ortiz & drew with Nicolino Locche, 2 all-time greats. Laguna boxes around DeJesus and wins a UD on points.
There's something pleasing about one nearly great against another very good fighter, both from latin america, meeting in a fantasy match that missed in reality by only a handful of years. A win would have enhanced either fighter's legacy. I think this is an almost guaranteed distance fight where speed and superior boxing skills would decide it. I have to think that Laguna would win on that basis.
I agree with everyone that Laguna wins. I think Laguna's speed, of both hand and foot, range , and jab would be a problem for the much shorter DeJesus.
Laguana is one of my favorite non Philly fighters so I am always glad to see a thread or a post bring his name up. Like the consensus so far I also think Laguna takes this, but DeJesus would make him work hard and Laguna would need to remain focused. I would expect Laguna to take a close decision...but then again I would excpect Laguna to take a decision in a Panamanian ATG battle over Duran lol
Lol it has been my underdog stylistic pick for years. In no way do I rate Laguna as highly, but I think he would do well in this one...I am sure most of us have an underdog hypothetical pick that others don’t see. This is “just” one of mine
