If there was a prime DLH or Tito around at the moment Floyd would be finished right now, let alone at age 33 or 35 when Whitaker fought them. Like you say flea, so long as he keeps cherry picking he should be safe.

Not sure an ancient Mosley or Cotto could do the job, or Williams, he is a little too lax on the defense for mine, but that Floyd even chooses to avoid them speaks volumes for him.

Fair enough comments though I think Winstone was a more standup boxer, whereas Floyd is more fluid and thows better combinations (at 130 anyway, and as for this hypothetical discussion we're transporting 130 lb Floyd into a 126 lb body I think it's a relevant point)

Would you say Laguna was better at 135 than when he was at 126? He looked pretty big against Buchanan, though I have only seen the 2nd fight and I assume he was a bit past prime then? Any thoughts, you probably know a whole deal more than I do on the matter.

How would Floyd get on agaisnt Buchanan? They both seem to be fighters who take a few rounds to warm up, how would it go? Would Buchanan be able to deal with Floyd's combination punching and speed, or would Buchanan's stand-up but somewhat unorthodox style put Floyd off of his game? I think Buchanan's angles and combinations would offset Floyd's, but I find it hard to pick a winner. Buchanan was a hurtful puncher, but I don't think he could land anything too significant on Floyd, but he was great defensively himself and possesed a fantastic set of whiskers so my thinking is that it definitely goes to the scorecards.

Over 12? Over 15? I'm a big Buchanan fan but I'm tempted to go for Floyd as I think his footspeed would be the key again. Close though over 12....over 15 I think Buchanan might win the lat couple of rounds, so who knows?

Yeah, I always thought it strange he never faced Margarito when he clearly would've won every round????? :think

I dont think staying in close with Saldivar would be wise for Mayweather with the educated pressure Saldivar would apply. He won't windmill until he gets tired like Jesus Chavez did, he's smarter than that. I think Saldivar will pit his right jab against Floyd's left hook. His jab is quite a good one and he should be able to slip a lot of left's given his lower centre of gravity.

His protection against the straight right is nothing other than a tight guard and a sturdy chin. Floyd's speed is too good to try and head dodge all his shots unless you are totally uncanny on defense, which Saldivar isn't.

    1. Hmm lets see are their resumes leagues apart?:

Castillo - aside from FMJ best lightweight from 2000-2005 with some amazing wins and outweighed FMJ by 15lbs

Corrales - aside from FMJ best SFW of the period, outweighed Floyd by 15lbs

DLH - rates higher on all time lists than Loche/Ortiz/Buchanon, Floyd went to DLH's natural weight, got outweighed by 15lbs+ and yes a 34yo Delahoya is better than Vasquez at 154

    Hatton - no1 linear 140lber from 2005-2009

Hernandez - no1 130lber when FMJ beat him and undefeated at 130

All in all hes beat 7 Linear Champions and countless rated contenders

    2. Floyd is more defensively varied than Loche and a much better counter puncher, quite similar in ways though. Cervantes is a robot though and for the record DLH was only 3years older than FMJ, made him come up in weight and outweighed him by 15lbs

If you think floyd struggled with DLH, then you can't score a fight or have bad eye sight, there wasn't 1 round where DLH dominated and he barely landed a shot in any round. Official punch stats have FMJ outlanding him 2-1 but many DLH shots look like they land when they dont

    3. Is this a joke? Saldivar isn't more skilled than Castillo and Castillo had 15lbs on Floyd in their LW fight and we all saw who the better boxer was. Not to mention Saldivar is a midget

I havent seen Saldivar-Laguna, but I have a feeling Laguna would be a little green at that age and just not strong at the weight with his height

PowerPuncher, I was making a comment on Floyd's LW resume compared to Laguna's. Laguna seemed much more comfortable (i.e bigger and stronger) at 135 compared to 126 (IN MY OPINION)

Also, Floyd is not more 'defensively varied' than Locche! Floyd has good head/foot movement, but his shoulder roll on the ropes is no better than Locche's numerous head movements and bob and weaves. I agree Floyd is the better puncher though. I know who I'd give ATG punchers a better chance and landing on, and it isn't Nicolino :good

Yeah because floyd's defence is gonna alow him to get tko'd by the one dimensional tito, o wait we've seen how great tito does against boxers that move. You actually thought oscar-floyd was close, you can't score fights, its that simple.

Now the hate is really coming out, if you know anything about boxing you'd know its about money and risk-reward. Floyd will fight Mosley or Cotto after hes beaten Marquez and Pacquaio and both are better than Vasquez

You do realise he broke his hand against Baldomir? The bad hands are probably 1 of the reasons he retired and doesn't throw many shots any more.

When it comes to potential opponents this is all speculation on your part.

I think 7-5 is relatively close.

saldivar is maybe a bit too small to be compared to Floyd straight up, but he was a helluva lot more skilled than Castillo.I'd say he was more or less on the same level as Chavez as far as skills go.

Great boxer-puncher who was a bit like a Curry or Louis in that he had almost no wasted movement in his game.

I agree that Saldivar is a bit too small, but if Floyd was able to retain his height and and the form he had in his best performances at 130 lbs, and be able to make 126 lbs comfortably, who do you think would win? Sweet_Scientist posed me this question and I found it relatively difficult to conjure up a conclusive answer.

Its certainly true Mayweather doesn't have the LW resume, but he only fought 5fights there, therefore you have to take the career as a whole.

If Floyd kept dieting to make weight he probably would have Marquez/Barrera/Morales/Pacquaio/Casamayor on his LW ledger but he went up in weight chasing the big money against Delahoya.

Regarding Floyd-Loche, I think Floyd's parrying is 1 of his best attributes, many think hes been hit when hes used his glvoe to deflect the shot. Loche is more flashy with his head movement but some of those moves he wouldnt get away with against better boxers. Floyd's defense also uses less energy and when you watch in realtime on TV it looks like hes been hit when hes parryed or made it miss.

I wonder how near to prime Loche was against Laguna/Ortiz and if he was quite as well schooled as the older version we're more familiar with
