Not sure about Floyd having better combos than prime Winstone (of say his second fight with Saldivar), Floyd rarely punches in combination, but he is slightly quicker and better defensively.

I've only seen four rounds of his fight with Saldivar at 126 and nothing else of him so I can't really generalise, but from that footage I thought he looked as good as he did at 135, simply somewhat smaller and skinnier. Saldivar made a lot of boxers look bad with his pressure and core body strength but from what I saw Laguna was doing ok.

I always thought Laguna even at 135 looked smaller than most lightweights. I thought Buchanan, Ortiz, Ramos and Ishimatsu all looked clearly bigger. The biggest he looked is probably the second Buchanan fight, and I thought he had lost half a step around that time.

Another 50-50 fight for mine. Floyd will deal better with Buchanan's speed of punches than he will with Laguna's, but Buchanan was a gritty guy and could take punishment to inflict it. I like Buchanan's chances the longer the fight goes, as I think Floyd might edge him out with speed for a while. If Buchanan can land the jab it will make his task so much easier. Not sure how effective it will be though given that Floyd is likely to try and counter and skip around for most of the fight. Buchana will have to force the fight I think. He can have success late in this one I think.

Yes but it seems natural because 1. Pacquaio-Mayweather is the only fight that will do over 1million buys. Plus Pacman doesn't want a BIG WW like Cotto/Mosley thats why Roach will make them come to 142 which they wont do. 2. he says hes back for 5fights, providing he beats Pacman/Marquez, which other fights will do big money? Only Mosley/Cotto and maybe Williams if he can keep his name out there.

I wouldn't mind him going up to face Pavlik :D

And the Casamayor of a couple of years ago would give Floyd a good fight IMO :good

Not really if FMJ stayed at LW until 2009 those fights surely would have happened

Given his past form, I doubt he would even sign to fight Pac. Even though he would probably win.

    1. Fair enough. Although I think Floyd started pot-shotting with single shots more as he moved up in weight to be honest.

    2. Agreed.

    3. You mean in terms of Buchanan pulling away with the rounds? I myself think it is doubtful Buchanan comes anywhere near to stopping Floyd, even over 15 rounds (Floyd is notoriously a hard trainer and has great stamina)

Nearly happened in 2005, they went for Mitchell instead, after getting turned down by Hatton and Judah wanting to fight at 148lbs to keep his titles, which Baldomir ended up taking from him

Well, Sharmba Mitchell is a lesser opponent than Casamayor. I guess that's why Floyd picked him :good

How many fighters has floyd actually ducked though, really only margarito IMO, he's been calling mosely out for years and shane never took it (more down to dela hoya not wanting shane to take it than mosely ducking him though), he wanted cotto when they where both at 140 and there was only about a 6 month time period between cotto becoming a big star and floyd 'retiring' with neither fighter pushing for it.

He perfectly entitled to an easier fight(though i'm not sure that what marquez will be) for a comeback after 18 months than going straight after the best at 147 as long as he goes on to fight them further on down the line, i think its best to wait till a fighters career over than to jump on them and say there ducking this fighter and that one when they may take that fight next, as we all know some of the biggest take time to come to fruition

Why did he all of a sudden choose to fight hatton? Cuz he's a lesser opponent right.:good

Why is he fighting Marquez, someone that beat casamayor and arguably beat pac twice, cuz he's a lesser opponent right?:good

I've said that myself in another thread (about restrospective respect for fighters) but seeing as Floyd ducked Margarito I see that as a bad mark on him. Especially as I believe Floyd would've schooled Antonio and won probably every round, plaster wraps or no plaster wraps.

Marquez as he is now would not have beaten the Casamayor or three or four years ago IMO.

I think he chose to fight Hatton after seeing how ineffective he was at Welterweight and knowing it would be easy money, yes.

I think the Marquez fight is an intriguing one, but I'll also assume it won't lead to any more challenging fights. I think the only 'genuine' Welter he would sign to face would be Andre Berto, who I see as a lesser risk than fighting Pac.

I agree, however the dela hoy fight was what he was aiming for at the time and even a past best oscar was a much better fighter and bigger legacy achievment than margarito would have been.

When people rightly give mayweather some slack for his welterweight career one question i do like to ask in return, how many of the possible welter opponents that PBF could have fought before his retirement would have been able to beat the oscar floyd did? I'm not sure there's many

I'd rather mayweather would have fought margo than baldomir as baldomir was one of the worst lineal champs i've ever seen but unfortunatly he was champ oo its understanable why floyd choose him over margarito, even its not what i wanted him to do
