I think saying he was a much better technician is harsh on Laguna, though he does have a more rounded offensive approach.Laguna didn't have much of a left hook and was a bit more inconsistent on the inside perhaps.

Well he was a better, or as good, technician in every area IMO. The one sleight I have on Marcel was that he was often too reliant on his left hook-right hand combo.

Actually I think you hit the nail on the head, Marcel was more consistent. Laguna produced flashes of brilliance, Marcel was brilliant all the time.

Laguna won the first Buchanan fight in my eyes. Even in the 15th round where he was really tired, I still thought he was landing the cleaner shots on Ken.

I wouldn't say Ken was the best British pure boxer in the last 50 years, but he was definitely the best British fighter. He can thank his chin, stamina and workrate for that.

Laguna was a great fighter with a good jab and he was a cagey fighter. I consider him one of the greatest lightweights ever. He was really the most popluar and loved fighter in Panama at the time when Duran was just starting off. Duran looked up to him.

I know me and you have disagreed on this before. I think Buchanan won a very close fight, but he deserved it IMO.

The thing with Buchanan he has this skillset but he also has this grit to fall back on. I think all his best wins from british title level up were achieved through his grit.

Didn't Duran once meet him and say he wanted to be like him?
