Defense applies to Boxing just as it does many other sports, and sometimes it's one of those skills that is often under appreciated, while at the same time hard to truly master.. While you don't get points for defense in boxing, you certainly can take away an opponents ability to score. If you took two equally skilled Knights and put them in an arena for battle, but one has a shield and the other did not, who has the advantage?

    When did "Good" become undesirable?

As in the good boy who avoids to fight.

That's the difference between Jedi and Sith.

    Jedis are Good and Skillful.

Siths are "Bad".. but not even like MJ "Bad".. they lack something ultimately.

All these people complaining: If we didn't have the 12 round system, and it was like the "old days" where guys would fight until one of them was finished, you'd see how flawed your argument really is about it being about offense.

Using the Mayweather/Pac fight as an example, let's be clear about something: Mayweather could have fought 50 rounds like that. Pacquiao would have been finished eventually.

"Back in the day" ... Manny and Floyd would have kept fighting beyond that 12th round. Manny would have been in big trouble if that was the case.

All sport involves defence. Only morons don't realise that.

All sports involve different participants with different skill-sets. Some have great attack, some have great defence - that not everyone fights the same is what makes it a sport and what makes it interesting. Sometimes a great offensive fighter will beat a defensive fighter, and sometimes it's the other way around.

All skill-sets are trying to utilise their talents to achieve victory, under the scoring system of boxing. That some people can't appreciate more than one style is beyond me - not real boxing fans.

Defense is avoiding being hit by your opponent, not avoiding hitting your opponent. Mayweather outlanded Pac by being "defensive".

Also, since when did "excitement" win you anything in the world of competitive sport?

Go watch WWF wrestling if you want excitement.

Egan is best known for his five volumes of boxing articles titled Boxiana. The first volume was published in 1813 and the series was completed in 1828. Within his articles, he often refers to boxing as the “Sweet Science of Bruising,” a phrase that acknowledges boxers as both methodical and tough

The origins of the sweet science nickname

Just defending isn't going to win you fights, scoring punches do. You can defend all you want but you wont win..

Just like Unce Roger said, most people don't know **** about boxing.

They should just make a new sport called "Pinoy Pride Power Punch" and they can fly actual bums in from places like Detroit and Baltimore and place them into some type of metal boots that are bolted to the center of the ring. Then the "exciting" fighter can just box circles around the stationary target and you can all pretend they're the best fighters and nobody can beat them. Because after reading comments after Rigo-Donaire, Vazquez-Gesta, and Mayweather-Pacquiao i'm convinced this isn't the sport for many of you.

There's a myth that Pep once won a round without throwing a punch. Just reflect on that. It's a claim that get's brazenly brought up in boxing discussions as a compliment to the man's skills. Yet...he did not throw a punch. Fast forward to 2015 and he must be the biggest fraud of all time.
