Exciting fight, Vazquez would no doubt make a fight for as long as it lasts but I don't think he has the style to beat Inoue, he's just too easy to hit and he would definitely get cut up. I'd give Rafael Marquez a better shot of beating the monster.
I'm thinking a great fighter at 122 has no shot against Inoue on ESB because he beat Donaire 2x and struggled to KO Butler for 11 rounds. Vasquez gets smoked.
It's not just who he beat it's how he beat them. Who else has crushed Donaire like he did? I did use to think Akhmadaliev might give Inoue a very tough fight but after his performance against Roman, I can see Inoue breaking him down. Same with Fulton if he had been crushing guys like Inoue and not needing to rematch Figuroa after their close fight, I'd probably see it as a more competitive fight. The guys at 122 look beatable and Inoue doesn't right now and that's why he's a big favourite over everyone at 122. Now that doesn't mean Inoue will easily crush them too, but surely you can see why people are favouring him heavily over them based on the optics.
I'm not using Donaire as a measuring stick when they fought, he was past his best and remains Inoue best win. Guys like Vasquez were proven champions, guys with experience who can fight their way out of a tough situation. Vasquez was strong, tough and had the heart to match up prime for prime with a guy of Inoue Calibre.I want to see how much ESB favors Inoue to beat the best 122 pounders of the last 2 decades to see just how badly he's being hyped up. Choco is an example of a guy who was considered the best P4P before rungvisai got his chance. Point is once you get to a certain level you have to prove how great you are. Inoue will have to go down that path once he steps to 122 pounds.
I think Inoue showed in the first Donaire fight he showed he too could fight his way out of a tough situation. Broken orbital socket, in basically the first tough fight of his career and he finished strong dropping Donaire, despite being clearly the smaller fighter. As for what happens at 122. What happens if he crushes everyone at 122 with ease? Is 122 suddenly another weak division and Inoue unproven or would you then "believe the hype?" If I'm honest I don't think 122 will be the test that shows how great he is. It's just going to be another division he breezes through and I'd see his resume only slightly improved. Inoue's biggest problem in terms of legacy is that there really isn't anyone at 122 or 126 with the kind of name value that takes him to the next level. No Barrera, Morales or Hamed level fighters who have that big name marquee value that fans recognise.
How is Inoue badly or even hyped up? You know the word hype is reserved for guys that are just starting to take on live opponents, right? Inoue's been absolutely dominant for 10 years and has been in only world title fights since his 5th fight and has cleared out 3 divisions? Hype jobs would be guys like Hrgovic, Ortiz, Stevenson, Haney, Bam, and Ennis until they fight someone with a pulse.
I think he's a victim of his own success. He makes good fighters look C class, so they say he's not fought anyone good.
