Cotto got worn down by a bigger man, who he outboxed clearly in the first half of their fight.

Izzy outlasted a man who was coming up from a lower division. A man who for pretty much his whole career had a massive size advantage come fight time over his opponants.
I cant see how that is an indication of their skill level, as it was their ability to take punishment that was the main difference in those fights. Margarito didnt outbox or outsmart Cotto in their fight, he just walked him down and beat him up.
I dont see what those fights prove at all.

Izzy was outboxed by Johnny Gonzalez, Armando Guerreo, Marcus Licona for big chunks of their fights. Larios with his fairly predictable offense landed a big clip of his shots against Izzy in their 2nd fight.

Im not trying to say that Izzy is just some crude slugger but the man is not a top shelf technician, especially not defensively. I think its only a matter of watching them on film to decide who is the better schooled fighter.

I feel that Vic will bring his power and awkwardness and give Izzy a good fight. We don't know what Izzy has left with all his wars.

My computer was down when I watched the fight Saturday, but I have to say that was one sloppy fight. It will be interesting to see Vic fight Izzy. I see it 60/40 for Izzy.

Israel should win this. I doubt Isreal will fear Vic's power, after this fight Isreal should reitre. He's already a year off with plenty of time to rest, the only way I see Vic winning is if Israel isn't physically or mentally healthy, the wars he had with Marquez has a taken a toll on him.

Vazquez' comment on Darchinyan from interview:

-You have declared that you wish to fight with Vic Darchinyan. It this truthfully interesting to you? What you think about it?

I was there to watch the fight live between Vic and Jorge Arce. Vic did a tremendous job that night and proved to be a very good champion. Vic and I have a little history together since we have sparred in the past. And they were good sparring sessions. He’s a tough guy and if we were to ever get in the ring I think it would be a good fight. I would be willing to fight him .

I think Vasquez wins fairly easily IMO.....but I won't count Vic out. His power is real and MOST people switch things up after feeling heavy hands like Vic....however...Vasquez isn't a guy who changes anything even if it by the kitchen sink. I think Vic is KO'd in this one. but I'm excited for the fight!

It's not straight punches that Vic needs to be wary of as much as it is the left hook. Vic's defense is set up in a way where it's geared towards blocking and avoiding straight punches, especially at a distance.

What he fails to do is pick his right hand up when his opponent closes the distance; therefore, is vulnerable to left hooks.

This will especially be the case when he fights a durable, compact, short punching fighter like Vasquez who is known for having a strong left hook.

Vic can win this fight by boxing and using his power, but considering that Marquez was quoted by many experts as being one of the most devestating punches, PFP, it is very unlikely that Vic can win this fight.

Eventually Vasquez will close the distance, so Vic better spend a lot of time in the gym preparing for inside fighting and Vasquez' left hook. Vic's best bet would be to tie Vasquez up everytime Vasquez manages to get inside.

But considering Vasquez' heart and durability, Vic might be disqualified by the end of the night because Vasquez will frequently venture inside.

.......unless of course Marquez finished him......which is always a possiblity.

Nice summary, Axe Man, although I think Vic is vulnerable to counter left hooks when he's rushing in, not every left hook. He won't have to look for Vazquez, he'll come at him, Izzy is no smart counterpuncher. And as Vic likes to set distance for his punches, he'd only have to take a step back and unleash.

Vazquez would be badly favored and indeed he has many weapons and strength in his arsenal. But it's still an excellent fight and Vic is very good vs. any kind of Mexican style, polished, skillful like Mijares, or come forward, brawling but skilled like Arce. That makes this matchup very interesting.

My bad. I did not realize that Vic is two weight classes beneath Izzy.
