This content is protected The fact that we (HBO) couldn’t make Mayweather-Pacquiao cast a pall over the sport this year. Now we have to come to terms with the fact that the fight might not happen and move on. If Floyd came back and wanted to fight someone else, I’m not sure how we’d handle it.” You know that day is going to come This content is protected This content is protected He has to stand firm with Al Haymon and Floyd. He might even have to say This content is protected This content is protected he only cares about the corporate business aspect, and that he can continue to play out his political ego trip of being in control of the supposed biggest star in boxing, This content is protected This content is protected Of course, he also wants to save his own ego from being knocked out. Based on following his recent actions, This content is protected Ross Greenburg must be aware of this and deal with it accordingly. HBO must blackball Floyd until he fights Pacquiao. The Don King escape option failed for Floyd and there is nowhere else to run to. If HBO Sports surrenders to the wishes of Mayweather, Haymon, the sport of boxing will have sunk to, I believe, an all-time lowpoint. Boxing will no longer be trusted to make the best fight the best. Nice of you to highlight the parts i was going to read either way. Mayweather scared of losing. Doubt Pacquiao would be able to manage a KO victory.
What you have to understand is that boxing is a business. Mayweather had made millions by being smart, both inside and outside the ring If he faced Pacquiao and lost his 0, all his credability goes out the window. He wouldnt be remembered as the greatest fighter of our generation, and all the lucrative deals, sponsorship and endorsements go too, because they are all tied in with the notion that he is "an undefeated 6 time world champion in 5 different weight classes" Al Haymon want to protect his fighter, that way he still gets paid and Mayweather never loses that air of invincibility, which secures his legacy forever. So what if he never faced Pacquiao, he can turn around and say "I wanted the fight but Pacquiao wouldn't take the test" Its his word against Pacquiaos. Now its obvious that Mayweather doesn't want it, but hiding behind a drugs test puts blame on Pacquiao and none on himself, a very smart move to make.
Just one problem, most of the first post assumes Manny will KO Floyd whilst, regardless of the real deal involving negotiation, popular opinion has Floyd cruising to a decision victory - and making it look easy in doing so.
There won't be any movement one way or the other until Roger and Floyd have their legal issues sorted out. Roger's trial was moved from July to August to October, and now to January. I don't know if Floyd's got a court date or whether they're working on squashing it. Either way, they won't commit to a fight (against anyone, not just Pac) until they know they're free. So give it a rest, eh?
I'm sure showtime will have no problem picking him up, and I'm sure enough boxing fans would still buy his PPV to make a healthy profit.
Except Mayweather claims that he is the best fighter out there, which I believe is still the case - it's his to lose, either in a fight or by continuing to disrespect the sport and the fans as he is doing.
why do people who hate floyd just let him fade off into the sunset and just be boxing fans. if he fights cool, if not cool there are at least 6 fights i cant wait to see. I can not understand why people who hate on the guy the most WANT TO SEE HIM FIGHT THE MOST, WHY?
What makes me laugh is now, just because Floyd wont make the fight happen, Pac automatially knocks him out now. Floyd is a MUCH better fighter than Pac, MUCH BETTER, much more complete. Pac is very exciting, and def the 2nd best fighter in the world, but Floyds the best, by some distance. I understand everyones frustration, I would love to see the fight, but if Floyd cant get up for it, thats his perogative. I think Floyd more than anything loves attention, and loves to feel in control. By keeping everyone waiting and guessing, he's got both of his loves. He can make the fight happen anytime he wants to, and knows this. You cant make the mistakes Pac makes and beat Floyd.
thats why we need to the fight to happen to see what happens, pac has defied logic before. what i dont get is how/why the *****s are happy about the fight not happening, surely you want your fvaorite fighter to take on hisbiggest challenge and come out victorious instead its floyd ud when they fight, floyds in vacation, floyd fights once a year baby deal wit it, ppv numbers baby floyds got em.atsch
