did the commentator say something about this being Vann's last year as a top ref? he's approaching his mid-60s so i don't know how much longer he'll be allowed to ref fights

All refs have to retire when they turn 65 I think.

    hopefully.

there should also be some sort of physical fitness requirement to be a referee, so they could put Parris (literally) out to pasture.

Warren has been making some strange matches lately.

I believe he is deliberately making these unwinnable matches for all of his fighters as he despises them all for not being as good as Joe Calzaghe.

    I can agree with that.

Do you think these fighters could win If they had Calzaghe's DNA Injected Into them minus the china hands? They would not be as good still but would they Improve?

Choi Tseveenpurev’s trainer warns Derry Mathews
Apr 4 2008 By Nick Peet, Liverpool Echo

CHOI TSEVEENPUREV has been bullying heavyweights in preparation of his world title double-header with Derry Mathews, according to trainer Jack Doughety.

The Mongolian WBF champion puts his title on up against Mathews’ WBU crown at the Bolton Arena tomorrow night live on ITV.

And eccentric veteran coach Doughety believes that his man has the undefeated Liverpudlian’s number and is confident that Tseveenpurev can do what 20 others have failed to do and defeat the 24-year-old Scouser.

Speaking at the press conference inside Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium, Doughety spoke about Tseveenpurev’s biggest assets and also warned Mathews of the Asian warrior’s punch power.

Doughety said: "He has fantastic dedication and a very big heart, those are undoubtedly his best qualities. But he can fight as well. He has plenty of experience as an amateur and fears nobody.

"Anybody who walks into our gym he asks the same thing, ‘Mr Jack, me spar him?’. He’s totally fearless. Anyway, I had this Polish heavyweight and every day he would ask me if he could spar him.

"Eventually I said yes and the two of them got in the ring. And Choi battered him from post to post. He was all over him and was the big 14-stoner couldn’t land a glove on him.

"In the end he stormed out of the ring, threw off his gloves and left the gym. That was the last time I ever saw him."

Through giggles, a member of the watching press pack ask Mathews what he made of the strory.

And after initially apologising for falling asleep, he said: "He couldn’t have been much of a heavyweight if he got beat up by a man who is just nine stone.

"I’ll tell you were your Polish heavyweight is now, he’s probably washing cars somewhere!"

As the Press fell into fits of laughter, Tseveenpurev sat emotionless and silent throughout. Just stirring blankly ahead and allowing his trainer to speak for him.

Mathews added: "This is certainly a tougher fight than my original opponent, Steve Foster.

"I would have smashed him up second time around, but Choi is much stronger and has a champions mentality. I respect him a lot.

"But my gameplan won’t change. My plans for fighting Foster are the same as for this fight. They are both smaller than me and like to come forward so there isn’t too much of an adjustment on my part.

"But that also means that the number I was going to do on Foster will now be done on him (Tseveenpurev) instead.

"I am planning to do a real good job on Saturday night and Choi is standing in my way."

Mathews expects to have a couple of hundred fans cheering him on at ringside tomorrow, despite Liverpool being caught up in Grand National fever - with many travelling directly to Bolton from Aintree in limos.

The Mathews-Tseveenpurev fight is live on ITV4 tomorrow from 7.30pm.

I've never seen Choi fight before tonight, and I thought he was cool. Seemed like a respectful guy too.

Somehow I think Derry will have changed his mind now about Buster Dennis being his toughest fight so far!

& I hate to say it, but I did express surprise here when this fight was first announced, I knew that little guy was good, but hes better than that, hes a bit of a monster.
Choi reminded me of Injin Chi the way he fights, & thats a big compliment.
