It does make you appreciate Jones' decisive win over Hopkins more...

He beat Hopkins rather easily in only dropping a couple of rounds, and the spare moments that Hopkins had the upper hand was because Jones seemed to take a rest rather than being outboxed or not in control. Pretty impressive considering no one has ever done that to Hopkins in 15 years of fighting after that.

Rather boring fight, but you gotta appreciate Jones' easy victories over Hopkins and Toney, two guys who have been very succesful for literally over a decade after their loss to Jones in several weight classes.

And before the excuses come, Hopkins was no more inexperienced than Hopkins was.

    everyone does appreciate it.

btw, experience is a much bigger factor in Hopkins' game than Roy's

And Roy had alot more amateur experience than Hopkins.

But its still an amazing win

Roy wasn't really at his absolue physical peak though was he? From what i've heard and read anyway.

That just seems like another world. I remember the build up to that fight, weirdly, but I never saw it until about 2000.

Neither fighter was at there absolute peak, I think RJJ at his peak couple years later would have been even more impressive against Hopkins at his peak. Both great great fighters though and its a huge win for Jones Jr.

He wasn't. But Hopkins wasn't at his mental peak. (Neither was Jones, but he was close). The physical game of Hopkins in his prime is underestimated here, as at his peak from 94/95 to about 2000, he actually could physically beat you up and mentally pick you apart.

Jones on the other hand is underestimated mentally. He knew what you were going to do before you did it, and he would counter and move. He could also adjust on the fly to make his opponent extremely frustrated. Anyone who listens to him commentate can tell he knows the sport inside and out, and if you watch his fights, especially at LHW where he was smaller and had to rely on his intellect a bit more, you can tell see it come into play.

That is Jones' best win in my opinion. No-one ever beat Hopkins as conclusively as that.

Good point...I never bought into the Hopkins wasnt at his peak excuse for that fight. Jones would have made him look stupid in any year
Roy wasnt the typical Roy that night..watch the fight Roy was lackluster and still dominated

Roy looked like he was just going thru the motions in that fight and won 9 rounds on my card.
