I don't know about other people but if Calzaghe takes this fight, he has my upmost respect for fighting the best there is to offer.

Dawson more talented than Jones, B-Hop or JC? Please!

And what adjustment has Dawson shown? He does the same thing in every fight, weak punching flurries whenever he can be bothered, has a rest, ships some leather because his defense is poor. He'd get beaten soundly and once again my fellow Americans would be claiming he was a hype job all along. I'll eat my own dick if Calzaghe got any credit for this one.

Other problem like another poster said, who other than the people on here would pay to watch it? It's not PPV worthy and risk and reward it's a no win.

Wether people want to admit it or not, he does (whoevers respect he doesnt have can keep it because theyd be idiots) but hed def get a lot more respect from me by fighting Dawson.... say what you want about Dawson but it would be one of the top 3 wins of JC's career, that will always earn someone more respect.

Dawson isn't even the ring recognized champ at 175...calzaghe is.

    Why should he fight him?

It would be a great fight for Calzaghe to take and I think he may so long as he is shown plenty of pound notes! He will be aware of the talk that he should face Dawson and being the type of guy he is, I doubt he'll retire knowing that question is still there. That said I believe JC takes the kid to school for a UD

I'm not really a Calzagahe fan but how can you not respect the guy if this fight was scheduled, for some reason I don't think it will get made.

    ay yai yai...

Let me ask you three questions

1 - Who out there is better for JC to finish off against?
2 - If JC beats Dawson by decision in typical JC fashion... where would you rank that victory?
3 - Have you seen any other fight other then the Johnson fight of Dawsons?

If you have a Dawson victory in JC's top 4 wins of his life... then youve answered your own question.

Joe Calzaghe is daft. You're thirty-seven and unbeaten coming off the biggest wins in your career -- retire already!

That said, I'd love to see him in with Dawson. He'll be going above and beyond the call of duty, but if he wants to, I'm with him. Props to them for picking a meaningful fight rather than a celebration send-off.

I mean, he could lose. Dawson is a young, big, strong fellow who has a very real chance of winning, especially if Calzaghe slows down further before the match is fought.

I love it. Bring it on.

I saw him get dropped by a dehydrated Tomas Adamek with one punch. he then proceeded to run for his life. He is a hype job...plain and simple.

    To answer your questions:

    1) Roy jones
    2) if JC beats Dawson in Classic JC fashion, you guys will say that Dawson was just a hype job and won't give him any credit anyway.
3)I have seen probably just as many fights with Dawson as you.

It would be truly inspiring if Joe took that fight.

Dawson is fast and slick, but when Johnsons pressure troubled him so much - Calzaghe might trouble him more, even with less pop in his fists.

    Calzaghe close UD, maybe.

Calzaghe said he thought Bute was a good fighter too, when prompted. If he does fight Dawson rather than anyone else, it's not because he thinks he is the best fighter out there - Calzaghe thinks that fighter is Kessler - but because Dawson would be more overhyped in the USA and bring more money to the table than anyone else. If that overhyped fighter were Johnson or Bute, say, he'd fight him, not Dawson.

Some in this thread said they would truly respect Calzaghe if he beat Dawson. Well, don't you truly respect him already for having beaten better fighters than Dawson, who were proven to boot, unlike Dawson? If you don't, your opinion or respect counts for next to nothing.

It looks like Dawson is the new flavour of the day, the new Lacy, except that he is less proven than Lacy, of course.

If Calzaghe has one fight left in him, he should prove truly great, proven fighters, who are guaranteed to give him a run for his money: fighters like Hopkins and Johnson. If he wanted to fight a young up and comer, he should fight a proven up and comer, like Bute, not Dawson.

Personally, I'd like to see Calzaghe rematch Hopkins and Kessler, before taking on the best of the rest, either Johnson or Bute or Dawson or whomever. This is what would enhance his legacy most, not beating the next Lacy, an unproven Lacy not least, in Dawson, just because he is American and Calzaghe simply has to be beaten by an American before Americans are going to give him any respect.

Calzaghe v Dawson in Wales to end his career. Can't get sweeter then a golden oldie beating up a young wannabe successor to his throne.

I really think that would cement his legacy as an absolute animal in two weight classes.
