I really don't feel like wasting my time defending myself, but what the hell. I diddn't say I diddn't have respect for Calzaghe, I said 'I would have the upmost respect for him if he fought Dawson' meaning that my respect for him would be even more than what it is. I hate it when people read into things that are not there.
He...did adjust in the Glen Johnson fight? If he doesn't adjust Johnson knocks him out around round 5 or so when Johnson realized he could catch Dawson easily. Dawson adjusted, used his distance and only got caught after he got too cocky. That's the big problem with Chad Dawson, he can get too cocky from time to time.
THis is the fight that Joe must take in order to get the respect he has been craving in boxing. He's beaten former legends in the game who were on their way out, but a guy like Chad dawson is in his prime right now and has similar skills and talent of guys like JOe, Bhop and roy Jones. THis will be Joe's hardest challenge and most difficult to win. I know we shouldn't bet against Joe...I lost money on Saturday for doing so, but I honestly feel Chad has the tools and skills to beat Joe. But we'll see if this actually happens.
The look on Enzo's face when Kellerman mentioned Dawson said it all; in Wales Joe CANNOT lose on points. I'm not sure if Dawson can stop him, and at least he would get the respect for fighting someone who is A) American B) Young C) Hyped but NOT one dimensional D) Probably in their physical prime I honetly think Joe's changing of tactics and Dawsons habit of chilling out when he wants to will see Joe win. Let's hope it happens next Summer at the millennium stadium. Besides, it will make a legit two-weight 'World' champ (i.e alphabet titles in two weights) If Calzaghe fights and beats Dawson convincingly, I honestly think even the haters would give him respect.
Glen Johnson is being completely overlooked in this discussion. Moreover, it can be argued that he just beat Dawson.
I've said from the beginning that this would be the biggest fight in boxing. I hope Joe takes the fight.
Joe won't fight Glenn....not a big enough name and very high risk factor. Chad is more marketable and has a "W" over Glenn so this fight makes more sense plus is more likely to be made.
I hope it does happen as it would then firmly shut the mouths of critics. I perhaps am watching a different fighter? But I can't even imagine how Dawson would beat Joe C, my prediction is it would be a one-sided schooling. However I would definately pay to see it!
I already have great respect for Joe, but his stock would rise even further in my eyes if he takes this fight, win or lose. I'll try my hardest to save up and go see it, too.
i reckon joe will take this fight and expose dawson before hopkins does.lol. what i am wondering is will every one be saying chad is fighting an old man at 10 years older as they did to joe for fighting jones who is two years older and b hop who is six years older,an extra 4 years difference, but i bet nothing is mentioned.
Dawson has beaten Adamek, Johnson and Tarver. Lacy did not have a single win better than those three,. To say that he is less proven than Lacy is ridiculous.
In that case you simply must be a naive n00b. They never gave him credit or respect for lacying Lacy...a proven dangerman with a good resume, even though 90%+ of American boxing experts commentators and posters were picking Lacy to KO him, they didn't give him credit or respect for a prime, unbeaten, hungry champion who looked much better in his best fights than Dawson ever did, who was much more proven and who seemed to have no weaknesses whatsoever (Kessler), they didn't give him credit or respect for a win against a great, great fighter in Hopkins, who then went on to absolutely school their posterboy Pavlik, they didn't give him credit or respect for a shutout of a very faded Jones, who still had enough in the tank to put him on his arse and tag him with some flush bombs, the best p4p fighter of his generation, America's pride and joy, and you think... ...you think they're going to give him credit for beating a chinny, unproven fighter who was put on his arse by a weight-drained, lethargic, shy Adamek, who was saved by the bell on two occasions against a faded 39 year-old Johnson, who had him out on his feet twice, and who was too faded to pull the trigger and take him out, and who then beat up on a shot Tarver who threw no punches when Dawson was standing in front of him without moving for an entire round? :nut
