True! He is not as good as Hopkins but he is better than a very faded Jones, at least let's hope he is...for all we know, Jones might take him out in the first round...:good

What a total waste of time this would be. I'd watch it but is there really anything to be achieved by making Dawson look a fool for 12 rounds?

Dawson isn't a big enough brand yet so I doubt the fight will happen.

What? Lacy was not tested by Dawson was? Yeah, Dawson is tested as chinny; Lacy was not tested as chinny!

What are you on about? Lacy was a proven, tested fighter! Dawson is not! He barely pulled through against 39 year-old Johnson! How is he proven? Lacy did much better against Reid, for example!:huh

Calzaghe tooled everyone at 168 and owns that division as an emeritus. At 175, however, he hasn't established dominance. Jones wasn't relevant, and the only major win Hopkins has is against Tarver. Who subsequently was beaten handily by Dawson.

I've been saying all along that the Calzaghe/Hopkins line has to collide with the Dawson/Johnson line in order to claim to be the title of the division. Johnson still has an argument, but he did drop the decision to Dawson officially. He'll need to reckoned with at some point (by Diaconu or whomever), but clearly Calzaghe is not the man at 175 at this moment.

If he beat Dawson, he wouldn't beat a good proven fighter in his prime; he'd beat a very good, unproven fighter with chin issues, in his prime. You cannot compare Dawson to Kessler. You can compare him to Bute, say, but not to Kessler!

Dawson is a telented fighter, I dont think he is as good as some people on here think, but definately one of the best light heavys.

I cant help but think though that if Jermain Taylor looks good against Jeff Lacy, because of his HBO contract, he would have a much better chance of fighting Calzaghe, than Dawson - who is a relative no name.

For the record, his win over Kessler imo is much better than any win over Chad Dawson...

The reality though is these 2 won't be fighting anytime soon. Dawson doesn't have that star power yet that a fight with Calzaghe would demand...and before the die hard fans out there start screaming "**** the money!", keep in mind Joe has the torch now and can really control his destiny.

I'd personally like to see them fight, but not just yet. I'd rather have 2 greats fighting one another as opposed to the young underdog against the legend.

Dawson is not the best there is to offer! Hopkins is, followed by Kessler...

Please find the wins on Kessler's resume equivalent to Adamek, Johnson, Tarver and Harding.

    Many thanks in advance.

**** me, even achilles' lost the plot! Isn't Calzaghe already an absolute animal in two weight classes? How is his legacy not already cemented!?

He did NOT adjust. He was saved by he bell in round three and in round 10, Johnson was too far gone to take him out...he was badly faded...If Johnson had been a little bit fresher, he'd have taken Dawson out!:good

A win against a Reid who still had a bit in his tank was not better than a win over a shot Tarver? :patsch

An impressive performances against Vanderpool and a good performance against Sheika was not better than getting put on your arse by Adamek?

So we're left with the very close fight against 39 year-old faded Johnson, in which Dawson was out on his feet twice, and in which had it not been for the bell, he'd have been taken out!

...yeah...what an impressive performance by Dawson!! He's clearly the man at 175!

Come on, madpup! You are an intelligent guy and a good poster!!

See, that's the thing. How many other fighters are out there where Dawson can prove himself again? Sure, he can fight Hopkins and if he goes on to beat Hopkins, most people probably wouldn't give him him credit because they would say Hopkins is 43 years old and such. Dawson's already beat Adamek, Tarver, and Johnson. 3 Top Lightheavyweight's at the time he beat them. Yes, he's got chin issues, but I don't think he'd have to worry about that as much against Calzaghe. Jones has bigger chin issues than Dawson and Calzaghe didn't get Jones out of there so I don't think we have to worry about a KO accuring in this fight. Point is, I'm not dissing Joe and do think he is a dam good fighter, but Dawson has done enough to earn a shot against Joe.

See, that's the thing. Dawson is not the only one who deserves a shot at Calzaghe! How many other fighters does BUTE are out there where Bute can prove himself against, before everyone will believe he is more worthy of a shot at Calzaghe than Dawson is? Sure, he can fight Kessler and if he goes on to beat Kessler, most people probably wouldn't give him credit because they would say Kessler was a one-dimensional "robo" Euro-bum and such. Bute's already beaten Bika, Berrio and Andrade. 3 Top LIVE SMWs at the time he beat them. Yeah, he's got stamina issued, but I don't think he'd have to worry about that as much against Calzaghe. Hopkins had bigger stamina issues than Bute and Calzaghe didn't get Hopkins out of there, so I don't think we have to worry about a KO occuring in this fight. Point is, I'm not dissing Dawson and I do think he is a damned good fighter, but Bute has done enough to earn a shot against Joe, probably more so than Dawson has!
