I havent seen anyone give props here to Kermit Cintron. The dude didnt have to seek a rematch with Margarito but he wanted a chance to get some get back. We all know it didnt work out too well for him but at least he perfomed a little better and didnt break himself down. The kid showed heart and courage and simply lost to the better fighter. I dont wanna be like other poor fans and say he was overated or overhyped etc etc. I prefer to give him credit for stepping up instead of finding excuses like others have done. So props to Cintron, I hope he gets his career back on track cause he's still a very good boxer and is fun to watch.
I dont care for him personally but i totally agree with what your saying, took a heart of a warrior to walk into the lions den a second time... much respect and good thread.
I'm not a Cintron fan but I give him credit for doing the rematch and at least going down swinging. He hit Margarito with some bombs.
i don't think anything negative can be said after what kermit showed on saturday, other than that he just can't beat margarito... looking at his body and his frame, especially around his shoulders, i was thinking he might be better served moving up to 154
I see what you're saying - but what do you think of Cintron backing out of his agreement to fight Williams by pursuing Margarito?
i disagree with your point that he did not have to do it. if anything because of the way he lost the first fight, he had to at least attempt to redeem himself. but props to him for manning up to the challenge and seeking out the fight
If he had ducked AM for a fight with a b-level guy then I would not have respected that but even though PW outpointed AM - lets keep one thing clear. . . AM dished out more punishment on the "Punisher" and held a huge psychological edge over Cintron so the fact that he seeked the rematch gets tons of respect from me and most fans.
yeah he looked severely weight drained at the weigh inn looked like cotto did at 140 ..... he should go to 154
I'm a fan of Cintron. People act like you can't be a fan of fighters that have lost on ESB.. and it's bull****. Would the same be said of greats like Ali, Louis, Robinson, Greb, Pep, etc.. if the internet and message board haters were around in there days? Cintron tried, but he just isn't a good matchup for Tony. Whatever, that **** happens, doesn't make Cintron a **** fighter, doesn't make him a journeyman, doesn't make him a has-been or a gatekeeper. It just means he is what he is, and he was a Champ. No lameass ESB poster can take that away from him hiding behind a keyboard talking ****.
It was hard in the immediate aftermath, but yeah, I'll give him props. This is one of those moments where we'll look back after the Cotto/ Margarito fight, and realize just what a beast Kermit had the misfortune of running into. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Kermit picks up a belt before his career is over. I still wish him the best.
i was a cintron hater but after i saw that video about him shown before the fight, the one about his mother and father dying, it really touched me, then he goes and gets his ass kicked, he stood toe to toe with margarito for 6 rounds until he got knocked out by a good body shot, i really feel for the guy.
HBO probably nudged Manny Steward to push Cintron to the rematch, knowing that Cintron would be unprepared or incapable of winning. So Margarito looks good whipping him, and sets up a great showdown with HBO darling Miguel Cotto. Hows that for a theory.
