It’s stunning that we are talking about the 2 big players of the HW division in the last 10 years, being a champ and ranked high in the Lewis era and being #1 in the post-Lewis era, but Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko have never ever been world champions at the same time, despite that being the brothers’ BIG FAMILY DREAM from day one.

You win some and lose some, but fortune doesn’t seem to favor these two... injuries and shocking upsets robbed them from their dream and now they are giving it another try. Vitali is fighting current #2 in Sam Peter on 11 of October after a 4,5 years of injury (and political career)-caused layoff and he’s favored at the betting offices. Also, Wladimir fights no1 challenger and the best new gun the division has to offer in Alex Povetkin on December the 13th.

They are both favored, but Povetkin is a tough and busy son of a gun to put on a REAL fight despite his size and power disadvantage and Vitali is both facing a live, hard-hitting opponent and the Angel of Misfortune and Injuries in the training camp. But 3 of the 5 Klitschko losses came in Germany and both of the fights will be held in that country.

On thing is sure: so far fate or some kind of evil (or holy depending on your opinion) force somehow prevented the two to hold world titles at the same time. Will the boxing odds finally defeat the boxing gods? Or the bad luck will continue to make his way through the Klitschkos’ career?

    The Klitscko Brothers’ title reigns:
    1999-2000/4: Vitali Klitschko (WBO)
    2000/10-2003: Wladimir Klitschko (WBO)
2004/4-2005: Vitali Klitschko (WBC, retirement on injury)
    2006-????: Wladimir Klitschko (IBF, 2008: IBF+WBO)

From 1999 to 2008, for nearly a decade, a Klitschko was holding a world title in every single year. But never at the same time... Will the bad luck end in the upcoming months?

    Please vote and discuss!

The only interest I'll ever have in a Klitchko fight is if they faced each other....at least Vitali had some entertaining title defenses before he retired.

There's not much standing in the way - Sam Peter

Vitali is going to beat Sam Peter to a pulp.

I don't see much good coming from this matchup. If Sam Peter loses to Vitali, people who steadfastly claim that this is the weakest era in history will have a field day. They'll say that Peter was beaten by an old man who hasn't fought in 4 years, then use circular logic by saying that even in his prime, Klitschko was beaten by an old Lewis, and quit against Byrd, hence boxing sucks today. On the otherhand, if Peter beats Klitschko, it will be a case of a young champion feasting on the exhumed remains of a diminished fighter...

Furthermore, if Vitali ends up winning it may prove to be a dead end. A unification is what the fans want to see, and the Klit brothers will never fight each other. Even if Vitali wins the belt, then retires imediately, it could take months or even years before a new WBC champ with the public's interest will fill the spot and campaign as a candidate for unification. Frankly, I think this fight is bad news for boxing.

If (and it's a big IF) both Klitschkos win, should Vitali fight Valuev for the remaining title (WBA) or should Wladimir try to capture it?

You must have some interest. You went out of your cold-hard way to find a Wlad picture of him losing rather than just some boxing avatar.

That tells me you're kinda lying. You must have some sort of reason for picking that avatar, and my guess is you don't like Wlad.

Man, I like Peter and Vitali. I always liked Vitali more than Wlad. Vitali being older will find it hard to beat Peter, but I think if Vitali can come in tremendous shape, he beats Peter. Vitali is so much tougher than Wlad, but he is not healthier. I will root for Peter, but will not be shocked if Vitali beats/ko's Peter. This is one heck of a fight too...

Another stellar post from Magoo. Not only does a Vitali win show how weak the division is, but it will definitely take alot of steam out of Wlad's sails. I believe it will confuse the general public as to which Klit is the true champ, while Wlad has held the belt since beating Bryd in April of 06, he's still looked at as mentally weaker and less tougher brother. I also think if Vitali destroys a prime Sam Peter, many will look back and see how hard of a time Wlad had with beating Peter 3 years ago, being floored several times and having numerous panic attacks along the way, against a just turned 25 yearold, very crude Sam Peter.

All in all, I'm very excited for the fight itself, but a Vitali win can do a ton of damage to an already punch drunk division. For the sake of the division and progress, real fight fans should be hoping Sam Peter blows out Vitali in a good war of sorts, and thats what I'm predicting.

But merely hold titles/a title at the same time is not their complete goal. They want to hold ALL FOUR major titles between them.

This is why I think we'll see Vitali fight and hammer Peter, then maybe meet his mandatory oblication (Gomez Virchis winner), then hopefully he'll try to get the WBA titleholder (currently Valuev) in the ring for further unification.............

If that were to happen, THEN, they'd have all four titles between them. After taking Peter's title, there will be one piece left to the puzzle. But with the demanding and unfair King involved, getting a fair fight deal for that elusive WBA title will be next to impossible

Yes, the Klitschkos and can and will do it on October 4, I'm confused about the goal myself, I thought it was just Vitali and Wlad hold at least one world title at the same time? I don't know if either one of them will be getting a shot at the WBA title.
