I think Quillin is good because he has pop in his punches. Defensively I think he has flaws though. Quillin v Chavez would be very interesting. As would, Quillin V any of Pirog Macklin Lee Sturm Geale Golovkin Barker Murray Martinez Guerrero or eventually Danny Jacobs (pending his comeback)
Quillen is ready for one of the lower top 10 guys at this point. He's beaten enough of the second tier fighters like a faded Winky, McEwan, and a couple other fringe guys. He's a pretty solid fighter right now and should get better. Not ready for Martinez and I don't think he beats a few of the oher top guys like Pirog, Sturm, Golovkin, etc but he is ready for the rest of top 10 fighters.
I think we seen a different fight Quillin is a disaster waiting to happen , he's not that good from top to bottom if I'm being honest
I think he's a solid contender, but considering his age and his developement, i'm honestly not too excited about his future. Hopefully he'll get a title shot and provide us with some good fights at the top level.
He achieved something nobody (out of a who's who of world class guys) had done since the underrated Julio Cesar Vasquez did it almost twenty years ago. :deal This Kid Chocolate is legit, and not trampling the legacy of the legendary ring name he's taken on as so many newjacks do.
Inrestingly enough he showed excellent poise in there, sure Winky is past his best but he still has a sharp mind, defensive abilities and a strong will to win. I definetly saw some slight improvements in Q's game and with some more discipline in the mechanics department I can envision this kid making himself into a solid maybe even great champ one day.
At this point Martinez, Lee and Pirog beat him. There is a slim possibility he KOs Lee if he manages to get inside, but I doubt it. Martinez knocks him out, and Pirog may knock him out too. Unless of course this guy has a ridiculous chin. I haven't seen Gologovkin fight.
I like the dude especially since you can tell he appreciates all that has been given to him and all that he has earned through hard work and determination. I think he has an excellent upside though I fear at 28yrs old he might be approaching his physical roof and now its time to increase your education in the sweet science. He'd give anyone in the middle weight division a good run just based on his physical traits, explosive, quick, strong and surprisingly patient. Sure the top teir of the weight division should be favored...but to automatically assume he would be destroyed by Martinez who himself depends more he's physical traits at 37yrs of age you can't help but think the fight would create fireworks.
Right his chin has been truly tested, I'd like to see him dropped even badly hurt to see if he has "true grit" and accepts the invetible truth that comes to every fighter in their career (unless your Wayne the pocket rocket) and that's not defeating a fighter but defeating adversity and demons that come with it.
Exactly. This guy needs to concentrate more on developing his ring IQ the physical stuff at this point comes easy to him. And by doing this it will help him into becoming a more complete fighter. Lets be honest 160 is a weak division right now so I see him beating bottom top 10 guys and giving elite guys like Martinez hell. You can't help but respect a hungry guy like Quillin who has worked his way from nothing to something.
The foundation is there for sure....all Kid needs is the right team to bring him along progressively. It seems like they are doing just that. Wink was the perfect opponent at the right time to help Kid gain some experience from an aging great....In the process I'm sure Peter is more confident, learn on the job and added Ronald "Winky" Wright to his ledger. The road for Peter will probably get tougher but I expect to see more improvements the next time he steps through the ropes.
He would beat the **** out of Lee, no chance for Lee vs Quillin. You'll change your mind on overated Lee who's done nothing after he gets pummeled by equally overated JCC Jr
Perhaps, Lee's last showing was due to his opponent, but he showed tremendous control of distance, precision punching, and beautiful uppercuts. I think his control of distance, combined with his precision punching will make it a very difficult night for Quillin who has holes in his defense. At the same time, Quillin is capable of a rough style, and he doesn't look like he's afraid to mix it up. I don't think he can outbox Lee, but he can beat him in a dogfight. I will admit though, Lee's uppercuts and overall inside fighting has improved. So, at this point, until Quillin shows me a little more, I would probably go with Lee right now. At the same time, I do acknowledge that maybe it was the fighter Quillin was in with as opposed to Quillin himself that made him look bad. Still though, I can't ignore what I saw. I think Quillin is too rough. Only time will tell if he's a diamond in the rough.
