Richie Woodhall on the disastrous night for Joe Joyce this past Saturday . Talks a lot of sense with no BS does Richie This content is protected
He looked like he hadn’t sparred any lefty’s in prep for this fight. I really hope but fighters go on to get decent opponents next if they don’t rematch
It's weird he looked so lost as he had a long amateur career. What were they doing all that time lol.
Joyce should have beaten Zhang comfortably. All he had to do was protect himself early then up the tempo in the 2nd half of the fight. He fought like an absolute idiot and southpaw is no excuse. He just wouldn't get his guard up and paid the price. Zhang looked really gassed by the 5th.
It looked like an amateur v Pro. Even a ex pro vs a aging Pro. Joe would be a wrecking ball with head movement and better pop.
All of Joe perceived strengths weren't there. Has he aged out already? He was very light and that might play a factor but the first couple of big shots he took bothered him. He could have legit been hitting the canvas early doors until the ref got close and Zhang backed off. Technically he was poor the straight left couldn't miss. Unless the first punch closed it - I don't think it did then he really needs work. Zhang is a fellow giant and took Joe shots no problem and other than work rate I don't see what Joyce could have done in that fight to even things up. He doesn't seem to have one shot power and his hands were so so slow. I'd get him in with Whyte quickly another fun winnable fight against someone with a name but who is clearly shop worn and then maybe look at Hgrovich or however it's spelt. If he can learn from this it may be a hurdle than a glaring problem but I think he might need to much doing after all. That chin looked like it could be cracked on Saturday night and his punch resistance was the 2nd of his big attributes.
Joyce looked like a novice and his shots had no affect, when that happens Confidence goes, u need start boxing smart to win on points , and stop trying to win big , Zhang would win any return unless Joyce back foot in a boring points win
He got it all wrong, didn't he? Cut the weight but still moved slow so all he was doing was losing a bit of power and strength while up against the biggest guy he'd ever been in with who also happened to be a Southpaw. Woodhall has got it spot on there, it just looked like Joyce hadn't prepared for this properly at all and it's probably going to cost him everything he's been working towards. Shame.
He definitely got it all wrong but how refreshing to hear someone give credit to the opponent, not moan or claim any excuse and even have a bit of humour at his own expense. What a way to own it
