It looks like Cotto-Golovkin is a no go

I think he can be forgiven one defense that isn't against the best of the division, so long as he doesn't milk it any further beyond that. It was, after all, quite an achievement for a guy who got famous at light welterweight and had been written off multiple times in his career to somehow end up lineal middleweight champ. Kind of a unique scenario. I say give him 1 defense, but then **** or get off the pot - as you say, vacate or take on the best in the division.

Golovkin would def take the fight for low purse on HBO.

But if Cotto fights Rubio then thats cool too.

 

This is a top possibility coupled with the fact that Cotto is more interested in making big bank than adding a nobody name like Golovkin to his resume.

He will have no knees left, punch the head so hard, his knees will blowout like martinez's.

So one of the main reasons he won't fight GGG is cos e doesn't know how he'll sell on PPV ..... Then in the same sentence says cotto's next fight is free on HBO..... Why don't they fight golovkin in their next fight that's not on pay per view then..... Or am I missing something??

As for your question: A win over GGG would alleviate absolutely all complaints people are having with regards to the legitimacy of Cotto's lineal middleweight title: the arguments being that Maravilla was falling apart, and Miguel was in the right place, at the right time. Plus I am pretty sure that it would make really good ppv numbers.

All that being said, I think its karmic that it's happening to GGG. His team used the exact same excuse not to fight Ward, what goes around, comes around. Of course, Cotto and GGG are actually in the same weight class so the situations are different, but if you factor in their willingness to move Genady up to 168 for a fight with Chavez and you get pretty damn close.

 

All this PPV nonsense need to end.

Mayweather-Maidana II isn't PPV worthy. Pac-Algeri isn't PPV worthy. Cotto-Alvarez is borderline, but still questionable. GGG-Ward will NEVER be PPV worthy.

The only PPV worthy fights are:

Pacquaio - Mayweather
Cotto - Mayweather II
Pacquiao - JMM 5

Everything else should be on regular Network TV. Some boxers are demanding too much and the only way to make back that money is on PPV. We as fans need to stop buying into it and force brats like Chavez Jr. to fight instead of acting like a primadonna.
