If I said I don't understand why Haye is doing what he does I would lie.
The problem is that the boxing fans are the victims of his ways and as long as the title isn't unified and boxers milk out their alphabelts it won't change.
But who really allow this to happen? A couple of fans who put up with anything he says and does and don't care if he fights washed up or fringe contenders, because they just want their hero to win. And the press who don't dare to be sceptical of their champion because their readers like hometown sports heroes and rather be duped than see the painful truth.
As long as they buy PPV and tickets and the papers keep calling him 'the champ' he doesn't have to change his ways. When fans are complaining, boycot his bouts and papers show the people what Haye's really about he has to step up to continue his cashflow. But with the 'defenders' he still has on this site only he can go on as long as he wants to.

put the fight on regular sky sports and the fight will do very well in my opinion due to the media hype, but put it on PPV and it'll flop. audley has never been a PPV fighter, and haye has only just become a PPV fighter. to be honest i don't even think many hardcore boxing fans will ever pay to watch audley box, especially a fight that many would believe would be over in the first couple of rounds.

yes i'm english, and i don't read the paper that much. i can't think of a time that haye had negativity in the top papers. he had negativity earlier in his career when he lost to thompson in boxing magazines, but no i haven't seen any negativity towards him in the papers, and nor will he recieve that much if he fought audley. he'll recieve some by the likes of colin hart probably, and the more knowledgeable boxing writers, but overall boxing writers are mainly just sports writers that know **** all about boxing. the hype will most likely be on track. audley talks a good fight. haye and audley will hype it to the limit with their antics.

Thought as much, British sports press are almost as badly informed as the Dutch sportswriters. I was shocked to read that Evander Holyfield regained the World Heavyweight Championship against Botha in a Dutch paper.

I love how the Haye fans just keep giving out those free passes for bitching out over and over again.

Haye could announce he boxes Frank Bruno next, some of his most loyal fans would defend just about any of the even most ridiculous opponents! What about a 200 lbs Naseem Hamed? Wouldn't that be a huge event?

Some of these guys (not all of them) know no limits, they allow Haye to go from one inexcusable ***** move to the next without ever questioning their loyalty towards him.

"C'mon folks, give Haye a break, the fight will be a big even here in the UK"

I won't be making excuses for him if he fights Harrison that's for ****ing sure

It's just rumours at the moment though, and not very credible ones at that. If he fought a Klit sister and took Harrison afterwards then yeah there's some excuse, but not right now there isn't.

you got colin hart who's very good. alot of boxing fans don't actually like colin hart because he speaks his mind abit too much, but he does get his information spot on. i remmeber alot of brits got annoyed with him because he said pacquiao will beat hatton, and look what happened, he proved to be correct. boxing is not covered that well in the papers, it seems they just put anyone in there to write about it so you see constant mistakes, which is why i dont' read alot of articles. frank warren also has his column, which he uses just to have digs at fighters who have left him. overall, boxing is covered very poorly in england with alot of mistakes.

Kind of like when British posters kept insisting that Manfredo was a STAR in the US and a big name prior to the Calzaghe fight.

Must have been the British media pumping him because Peter was and is a nobody in the US and he is a ant in the boxing world.

I am not surprised. Audley Harrison was always on my list of possible Haye's opponents along with Hopkins and Valuev.

Haye just cannot handle tough opponents. He will avoid KlitschKOs like plague!

the fight got mentioned in the papers, but it didn't get hyped that much, not for anyone to think he's a star anyway. what the posters probably thought is that manfredo was a name because of the contender show, and i suppose in a way they could be right because a few of the contender people have had big fights since even though they're not world level fighters, so theres got to a reason for that, it can't be skill, so it's got to be that they made a name for themselfs, but calling them a star is pushing it. the contender show was covered in england, and it did become a bit of a hit.

Maybe that would have something to do with it since it was a complete flop in the US.
