He would benefit most from a couple of his fighters stepping up and fighting like they did in past. If Pac and Khan come up big, it would end talk of him needing help, or being overrated. If he brings a top guy in, he looks weak, and it could lead to him losing fighter, the nature of the business being what it is. He can't bring in a nobody. I don't see him as being weak at teaching defense.
thats just the way they r. they r perfectly matched. almost all his fighters have limitations. top rank is a pro at this.
The thing is Khan, Pacquiao were not allowed to fight their fight in with Peterson, Marquez and that is what allowed us to see the holes in their game. Even if both have huge performances in their next fight it will only serve to paper over their flaws and sooner or later someone will again show them up. He IS weak at teaching defense there is no doubt about it, what Roach does well is maximise what he has, when you have great athletes like he does you can go far but they are fighting the best opposite and it is only a matter of time before the flaws showed up. If I was Khan I would go and find an additional trainer, it's his career and he is still young enough to make small changes that will have a big impact.
omfg tis well da FACT day r tryin 2 win wthout ped's!!!!!! Seriously, they should have all sorted their defence a long time ago, the only one of the fighters he trains who is good enough to cope against most without defence is pacquiao, the rest will always have problems.
Actually, Khan has improved defensively since joining Roach. He's definitely a better, more complete fighter now than he was pre-Roach. If you watch his old fights, he's more reckless, carries a lower guard, and doesn't utilise his best assets consistently (like the jab and movement). He was fighting too much like a quick brawler, while now he's more like a boxer -- still too aggressive and impatient, and he still has leaky defence, but he's much better than he used to be. Now he actually boxes to his strengths properly, and Roach wisely turned him into an ambush fighter behind a tight guard. He does seem to have hit a wall, though. He's simply not getting better anymore. The flaws in the Maidana fight were still evident in the Peterson fight. His defence is definitely leaky, and he simply doesn't do anything on the inside. He's actually lucky that he lost to Peterson, because Mayweather would have walked all over him after the first round or two.
^outboxer is correct. Khan has improved significantly under Roach but now has plateued in terms of skill development
This, but the difference between Maidana fight and Peterson, that Lamont costed Khan that extra L, which makes him more focused, and has actually if i'm not mistaken training in Manchester with another coach to improve his flaws?
